I wouldn’t normally advocate getting into debt for a child’s birthday, but if you’re able to pay off on payday then there shouldn’t be an issue.
Very is actually a really good one, reasonably priced (other catalogues drastically mark up prices) and there are often £30 off a £60 spend codes, so you can actually save some money. I’m sure you can get a % through quidco for them too.
If you pay before you’re statement, or buy now pay later, they often do 0% interest.

Otherwise, for a 5 year old is there nothing cheaper you can get to wrap up? He won’t necessarily notice the difference in cost for expensive/cheaper presents. Or check gumtree/Facebook for free or cheap toys. Take a picnic to the park for the day and a pack of bubbles and a ball!

B&M is very good for cheap toys, we bought my 7 yo stepson loads in there for xmas

If he's having a party with 30 children he will get lots of presents so a small, well chosen gift should be fine. Sometimes they get an overwhelming amount of stuff.
