PastDueCredit and collecting overpayment of tax credits?

Hi, received a letter from PastDueCredit requesting I pay them an outstanding tax credit overpayment. I don't have an issue with paying anything back but I'm a bit puzzled as I've received nothing from HMRC regarding this matter. I was also under the impression they either take the overpaid balance off current/future claims. I have been over/underpaid in the past and always got letters or they subtracted/added to the next months payment. I'm a bit concerned as it's also solely in my partners name BUT not his name...it has his father's name (both first and middle but my partner has no middle name!?)
Has anyone had anything similar and what did you do?
I've emailed requesting full information of debt/whether the debt has been bought/also full name of the person.

Any info would help - I get very stressed by these letters as I've only ever received a demand letter from energy supplier once and that was due to extreme baby brain! Still stressed me!

Sounds like it's for your fil and his name is a connection to your dh so it has come to his /your address. Ring them ASAP.

Thanks so much for your reply Snowy. I did assume that. I've emailed them requiring more info and I'll be giving them a call tomorrow as it states office is open from 9-1 on Saturdays.

My ds 's ex mil got a letter for me due to surname connection!! I have never even been in the woman's house!!

This is why I hate Tax Credits - uncertainty of it all. I would just expect it to be in my name not my partners father's name at my address! I have googled the company and it appears that HMRC are using them but I'd expect if it was an overpayment full details of debtor disclosed by HMRC to the collection company...a heads up from HMRC would be nice to. My P earns below national average and I'm SAHM. I've always been fearful of spending CTC, even when we've been below the breadline. I understand child benefit but tax credits baffle me and I'd love to be in a position where I'd never have to claim as the stress of over/underpayments literally keeps me up at night.

If the letter is not in your or your DP’s name why didn’t you send it back with not at this address written on the envelope?

If you think you may owe tax credits back then call the tax credits helpline to check the letter is genuine.

Canany1help · 18/02/2018 08:33

Both my partner and his father share same initials apart from middle name (my DP has no middle name) I just didn't notice it when I opened it as the format was very small.
I will be getting on to HMRC first thing Monday. I don't know about owing anything back to them but usually if we did (as with under payments) they send a letter informing us of the fact and whether they are to subtract/add to next payments. I've never dealt with an outside agency before.

I was just wondering also whether anyone else has experienced this via HMRC re tax credits.

I'm also curious as to why it wouldn't have been in my name as although we have only one income it's just over the threshold for DP to claim WTC so CTC is paid under my name, all that gets put under his name is 0. Even when he was an even lower income it whatever WTC that would have been paid wouldn't even come to this amount. I know only HMRC will give me the answers I thought if I just posted my situation then others may have experienced similar with them.

These people are a blooming nightmare. DH is currently paying off a claim from when he was with his ex. It went to them and he was paying, then he kept getting threatening letters saying they hadn’t had the money! Took ages to sort but it turned out that it had been passed back to HMRC. That was about 6 months ago. Earlier on this week, we got another threatening letter from PCDS demanding money even though we are still paying! So glad he only has £140 left then we never have to deal with those fools again.
