lonely and need.... I have been thinking about this while i have been washing up (and as I am back on the die) t... Are the plates you eat off the ones that measure 8.5in across? And do you have 2nd helpings ever?

If so, food (plates) for thought on portion size in my case.. I mean mine isn't so loaded that you cant see the plate .. but we do use the dinner plates usually .. Mind you DH can eat for the UK and never put on a lb (grrr)

SunnyLikeThursday · 04/01/2018 23:38

I'm totally not caught up on the thread, but briefly have time to stop and breathe. My parents' house buying has completed and I have the key now, so that is a huge relief. Will be lovely to have them close. Slightly panicked by the news of A&E crisis.

I hope things are okay there. I just haven't had time to stop and catch up on the thread for ages.

Fluffy I have an odd question for you. My parents' new house has LED lights and they give me an epic headache. Would you happen to know anything about switching back to halogens?

mammymammyIRL · 04/01/2018 23:57

You lot are so chatty I'm at a wedding tomo I'm going to fall behind!
Lonely definitely buns in our house too Grin
Laska I loved trolls am very disappointed that dd didn't get into the troll phase she's been into my little pony for past 5 years Smile

€9 in Penney's - two sets of nails & a set of reusable eyelashes. Dc spent vouchers there & thanks to not leaving house as early as planned they were hungry so I spent €12 on 3 Tesco meal deals, it would've been 1.5 more hours until they could eat.

I realised today that €500 of my debt isn't really mine it's dhs car insurance & money my dsis & dbro owe me so will get that next month I guess.

I'm doing reasonably well at no personal spends, preplanned are ok

LonelyOversharer · 05/01/2018 00:17

laska yes, the 8" plate. I can fill it, and it looks like tonnes (it sort of cons me, as it's a full plate). I put the same amout on a bigger plate for dd1, and it looks a smaller meal, but she doesn't like foods mixing so needs the bigger plate. I sometimes have a bowl of cereal later on in the evening, but then I have stopped eating breakfast, so basically have it 8 hrs early! I am a grazer, so try to eat less big meals as I'm going to pick at other things anyway.

Sunny

It's only a problem if the step down transformer is absurdly low for the 12v ones. Wiring a transformers not hard, it's finding it.

WreckTangled · 05/01/2018 08:30

Might go to the local farm park today. Last day off for the dc back to school Monday. Ds has a swimming lesson later so that'll be £25.

SunnyLikeThursday · 05/01/2018 08:39

Oooo! What do you mean exactly Fluffy? Is there a single one for the house or one per bulb?

ememem84 · 05/01/2018 08:47

Hoping for nsd today.

Ds and I are going to have a fairly quiet one. Christmas tree needs to come down and be out outside by 8am tomorrow for collection.

He’s currently asleep on bed. I’m still in bed - despite me getting up as dh yesterday said he needed a lift in this morning he decided he was walking. So I’m back in bed. I have a cold and just want to rest. Fat chance. Catface is going bonkers - she’s cantering up and down the hallway and every time she goes past the bedroom door she meows and sounds a bit like an F1 cat.

Laska5772 · 05/01/2018 09:04

lonely its a good idea i think ill try it.. hoeweve am back on the fast800 so theres not much food to worry about .. .sadly 2st has to come back off. Most of this i put on last year.. raging sciatica didnt help .i just comfort ate and drank.. However thats a huge amount better i am getting more cinfident with getting back to exercising .. maybe even back on the scooter!! (Remember i face planted off that? I yhink thats what caused the injury that lead to sciatica.. all much better now since physio )

Laska5772 · 05/01/2018 09:05

Oh this tiny phone keyboard!! And my fat fingers Sad

SunnyLikeThursday · 05/01/2018 09:12

I think I might have bit of time off today. It's been non-stop since dh started his job and ds had his operation, and my grant started. I have little inkling of an idea that I could possibly just stop and think a bit today. Phew!

Laska I'm so glad to hear that your sciatica is improving. Very excited to hear you might be on the scooter again. Yay!

Lostmyemailaddress · 05/01/2018 09:15

Thank you rebbecca :) will have a look at them.

Laska5772 · 05/01/2018 09:16

you got one also didnt you sunny? . They are great fun as long as you watch for potholes!!

northender · 05/01/2018 09:23

Not read back fully, it's moving so quickly.
Sunny glad your parents house purchase has gone through
Need yes we do travel a lot but we're so used to it, coming from opposite ends of the country. Good to have a family base in The southwest for holidays & weekends too, we are lucky.
Em your pic of ds in his cot is lovely, something so peaceful about a baby sleeping
MissA good luck with POAS, hoping for positive news...
Sorry I haven't got to grips with all the new "faces" yet, I will try to remember who's who.

It's been an eventful couple of days, we're in Devon now for a quick festive visit with the pil. Travelled down last night after a bad day for ds Sad.
I took him to the dentist in the morning to have tests requested by the max-facial surgeon. It turns out the nerve supply to one of his teeth is dead so he needs root canal work done before they will operate to remove the cyst in his jawbone. He needs that cyst removing before they will put him on the list for all the surgery and bracing he needs to sort his teeth and bite out. Then dh took him to the GP in the afternoon. He may be starting with tonsillitis again (3 weeks after the last time) and the cyst on his eyelid is infected again. So he's on antibiotics again but the GP suspects glandular fever. All in his GCSE year. I kept strong for ds and then shut myself in our bedroom and had a sob! He is feeling sorry for himself unsurprisingly but still smiling. So hard as a parent I just want to be able to click my fingers and for it to all be sorted. On the positive side, it's all sortable. He's due back to school on Monday so whether he goes in or not I'm going to ask for a meeting with the year head about his coursework & studies. School have been really supportive so far, ds has had more time off school since September than in his whole time at primary & high school. He's very motivated and will do anything asked of him as its only 6 weeks until he goes to play cricket in Tobago for a week so he wants to be okay for that Grin.
Another plus from yesterday was seeing how capable dd(13) is. After a hectic morning with ds, I had to go in to work for the afternoon. Dd asked for jobs that would help. She returned library books, ran an errand at one of the local shops and sorted out beautiful flowers for mil, what a star! Girlie she really is an example of what can happen when you find a like minded group of friends. She's a year ahead of your dd but had very similar sounding issues and is so different now, really blossoming. I really wish the same for your dd.

Sorry, that was a long story but it helps to vent sometimes and it did impact on our frugality as we ended up eating at the services on the way down, not something we would usually do £15 spent. Root canal work will cost £500 I'm guessing (private dentist) so I'm glad I'm working extra hours at the moment, we'll be able to cover it without interfering with our regular budget.
Given the circumstances, we are going to have a very restful couple of days, just family time here so spending should be very low. I have a couple of books with me to try & read, here's to a day of not doing very much, it will make a welcome change.

Annwithnoe · 05/01/2018 09:25

Today is going to be an expensive one as I’m going to stock up. Cat food is nearly run out, otherwise we’d last another day or two.
But I’ve made a master list, and cleared out the cupboards. There was quite a bit of stuff in there that we just don’t eat, and a lot of just-in-case stuff. I have a terrible habit of not checking what’s in the back of the cupboard before heading to the shops. Then I spot something that isn’t on my list and buy it because I’m not sure whether I have any. Which is how I end up with enough pasta to feed a small army but no rice for the curry I’ve started making that day Hmm
So for the first time in about twelve years I know exactly what I need in the shops!! And I’m sticking rigidly to the list!!
My Dsis is coming over to see the kids so I’m going to take shameless advantage and slip out to the shops by myself which will save me a fortune Grin

We do the small plates here too! The big dinner plates only get used when we’ve fallen behind with the washing up. I think it helps when you’ve been socialized to clear your plate. I think it gives you a chance to decide whether you really want seconds, in our case you’d have to get up from the table, interrupt the conversation to get seconds from the hob, and sometimes that couple of minutes of waiting politely for someone to finish what they are saying is enough time to register that I’m not
actually all that hungry anymore. It doesn’t happen straight away but over time. I don’t put salt on the table either. Having to get up and go to the cupboard to get it helped us cut back.

Ememem , I hope you’re getting a nice nap. My cat waits until I collapse exhausted in the evening to come and start demanding food/attention/ conversation. And climbs on my chest and whines if I ever nap on the sofa. She’s very lucky she’s so cute Grin

Laska Yes my son has a scooter, which he swears he never uses. But actually he sorts of potters round the house on it and does a very complex series of balances on it. It's very nice to watch, almost like ballet. :-)

northender · 05/01/2018 09:27

Laska so glad to hear your sciatica is so much better and that Physio has helped. As a physio, I always fly the flag but as with everything, people have mixed experiences so that's good to hear. I remember your scooter-related face planting incident....OUCH!

SnugglySnerd · 05/01/2018 09:28

Sorry you are still struggling with sleep Christmas. The dts both slept well last night but DD1 fell out of bed so I had to get up with her. It's a conspiracy!

Fridge I need to know more about bath jelly! Dd would love that and she has a birthday coming up. How do you clean the jelly out of the bath afterwards?

I have veggie shepherds pie in the sc but I think I've put too much water in. Normally I'd chuck in loads of gravy granules to thicken it but that will make it too salty for the babies. Any suggestions?

Laska5772 · 05/01/2018 09:43

snuggly how about adding some cous cous?
north I didnt know you were a physio ( or if i did id forgotten!). Yes she was brilliant .. NHS referral in 2 weeks . Mackenzie extensions ( actually now i think i remember you commenting on this at the time). The GP gave me anti depressants cant remember what they were but began with A... after 4 tablets I was a zombie! Stopped taking them after that so Physio was a godsend..

Wolfcub · 05/01/2018 09:45

Snuggly I’d drain of some of the liquid and then I’d add some slaked cornflower half an hour from the end if it still looks wet

WreckTangled · 05/01/2018 09:48

Snuggly lentils!

northender · 05/01/2018 09:55

Snuggly porridge oats would work to soak up liquid and they just take on the flavour of the mixture
Laska yes I remember you mentioning the McKenzie stuff now. I work with patients with chronic lung disease, so completely different but I did do some basic Mckenzie training many years ago

ememem84 · 05/01/2018 10:03

missA good luck poas! I’m oretty sure going by the last year or so there has to be two preggo frugaleers at any one time....

ann catface settled on the bed with us for a while then decided she’d had enough. Ds has started grabbing things in reach and he’s super interested in her. He’s touched her twice (I put his hand on her) and she wasn’t bothered but I imagine a grab of the tail and she would be.

She’s a ex-feral rescue. She started being super friendly and protective when I was pregnant. And is actually super protective of ds. When he naps during the day she sits in the same room as him. If he makes noise she meows and comes to fetch me (never deals with him herself though....!!). We were worried she’d go a bit crazy with him around but if anything she’s become braver and more cuddly with us.

Out of bed now. Ds is about to get dressed (I worked out I have enough clothes for him to do two full outfit changes a day and he’d never wear the same outfit twice!) and then we’re going to tackle the Christmas tree.

Something has arrived at the post office for us - I signed up for the text and collect service - so they don’t bother to deliver parcels here anymore. Just text me when they have one and I can pick up the same day. If they left a card to let me know hey had something it’d be two days before I could collect. It’s a paid for service £15 a year but absolutely worth it.
