Help - this year we are in a complete mess financially, we have maxed out both our credit cards and living in our overdraft. I just want to cry as we both have good jobs with reasonable income but dh is self employed and we had to make a big investment in his business of £15k which has been put on the credit cards that were empty.

Christmas has been horrible as he's been paid late for invoices which we need the money for and he's got to pay tax which again he's got no savings for.

I feel like crying as him running his own business was on the condition we had a back up pot of money, but he's been doing so well I agreed to get a big loan out for an extension we needed to give us an extra room for the children. I can afford the loan payments of £350 a month but as his accounts are so crap I've had to pay for more so am £1200 into my £1500 overdraft.

We need to do some serious budgeting this year and I want to organise his business finances so looking for Household budgeting programmes and for a small business if possible ? Thanks

What are you using to keep the books for the business? Something like quickbooks will have some budgeting built in.

We are not using anything for the business. It's not really any proper expenses except petrol and telephone and internet and the one big expense for software and that's it. My husband sends it all to accountant to sort out but his downfall is some invoices are paid at 30 days some at 45 and some at 60 so I keep telling him he needs some cash flow forecast to know when he will have money in

If you know when the invoices are due that gives you your cash flow, once you allow for some late payments. In other words, if he does three big jobs next week, that money should arrive in about 7 weeks.

If he has an accountant, I'd ask there first for advice.
