Trying to keep warm

I am alone during the day so it seems such a waste to heat the whole house just for me, but l get so cccccooollllllld. Am currently wearing gloves!

Would a electric blanket be cheaper then having the heating on?

Have tried to google but not really got anywhere!

A heated throw would be warm, can you just heat one room?.

Offer a doggy day care Service but only accept lap dogs...

I could just heat one room but then I'd have to go and return the radiators back on for the boýs coming home.

I'm home alone most days. I have been known to wear thermals and snuggle under a blanket!

Shame our cats and dog are very snuggling and hot!

Have you done the hot water bottle, onsie on over clothes trick?

I'm wearing hat, fleece, fingerless gloves, winter boots. All of this inside my house.
If I'm sitting still, I have a hot water bottle and a blanket over my legs.

One of those heat packs that you put in the microwave then drape over your shoulders, can be good.

What about a free standing heater for one room in the day time. It'd only take a couple of minutes to turn the other radiators back on when the come home wouldn't it. Have you got all the free insulation that's on offer.

A big yes to electric blankets they are amazing! We bought some off QVC last year and used them loads, this year I bought one for MIL and it has a foot pocket. They are low cost on the electricity only a couple of pence an hour.

We bought a free standing oil radiator for this reason when I was on Mat leave, if it keep the door shut it can get the room nicely warm 👍🏻

Electric blankets are amazing. If I lived on my own I’d spend all my spare time in my warm bed watching tv 😂

I did just get a long hot water bottle though. It’s like a long thin full body one. Going to test it for the first time in a moment. 👍

Also, and I know this sounds daft, but I've found ankle warmers make a big difference - regardless of how many layers I wear all over my body, ankle warmers just top up the warmth. I wear them shuffled down to cover half my foot

Turn down radiators in less used rooms, shut doors, have real curtains not stupid transparent ones, use draught excluders. But do heat the house sometimes!

I put my dressing gown on if my legs get cold. Also, I find that fleeces and sweatshirt type clothes do nothing for me, I need wool. Doesn’t matter if it’s an old scratchy sweater from a charity shop or the softest cashmere, as long as it is wool.

I'm getting a heated faux fur throw for Christmas off Dh. He's not convinced but I've told him it will be awesome.

I've also told him only one person will fit under it.

Instead of huddling under an electric blanket, why not wear lots more clothes?!
Woolly tights under trousers stop draughts, a cute warm jumper or cardigan (I have a sheepskin waistcoat from a charity shop) for in the house, lightweight scarves (ring shaped don't dangle into what you're doing) to keep you cosy and since a lot of your body heat goes out through your head, a hat!

I'm buying everybody sheepskin slippers for *mas this year. Not because our house is particularly cold but because both DC worship cosiness. Squaw style booties for DD would be really cute...

Do you have any reason to suffer like that rather than just have your heating on?

Have you got some real wool jumpers? Wool keeps you so warm - there's a reason sheep grow it!

If you are able, can you do a couple of minutes of something aerobic when you start to feel chilly. I find if I spend just a few minutes jumping around, waving my arms about, it raises my body temperature and that lasts for a good while afterwards. Don't do so much you get sweaty though, as then you'll feel really cold with slightly damp clothes.

If you could get your hands on a down gilet, that helps keep your torso really warm. You could probably pick one up on ebay fairly cheaply.

It’s totally worth the purchase. Great for a group sofa cuddle under a blanket with a movie on.
