I really need to raise it to get a train ticket for Feb to visit family. Haven't really anything of value to eBay or sell on seek n sell type places on Facebook. Any ideas?!

Shpock is an app for local buying and selling. Like the Facebook groups but much more organised and much fewer people who let you down as is often the case with the FB selling sites. Shpock warns the users that they're entering a "legally binding agreement" before they commit to buy. If you price things reasonably then they usually sell very well, and there's no commission to pay.

Do you have a family railcard? It could pay to have one with just the one trip - certain times of year it is cheaper to get.

With a Family Railcard (currently around £30) you can get return tickets from the North West to London for £20 RETURN for a child AND an adult.

So long as you aren't too fussy about times!

I do it all the time. Smile

Switch to first direct for a good deal, also if you're with sky and recommend they pay out.
