Single parent with daughter going to uni..

I work 36 hours a week band 4 NHS job.. I have 2 daughters. I have never had child maintenance for the older one and get £20 a week for the younger one. Older one is going to uni in the next few weeks. My tax credit is going to half and I am worried about how I will manage. My wages pays all my rent, bills and car (needed as work in the community)

I am wondering about breaking down what's left and putting into envelopes (does anyone do this?)
I am used to getting my tax credits weekly and use it for petrol and food once my wages has gone. With this being half it won't cover these things.
Does anyone have any tips about how to manage my finds better and realistically.

Envelopes work for me...weekly cash budget and when it's gone it's gone, no topping up.

Have you written down all yours incoming/outgoings, reviewed all your spending/DDs/SOs...proper written down budget?

When my dd went to uni she lived at home but had a Saturday job which she bought her own toiletries etc with! Was a helpful reduction to my shopping bill!

It all depends how much you are going to have to contribute to her bills. Unless of course she is going to stay at home.

Has she applied for loans and bursaries?

You will have fewer expenses food wise as your daughter will no longer be living with you. This is the way it is supposed to work. I think you will find that 2 of you will live more cheaply than 3.
