I was working lived within my means decent income for us. Then life was turned upside down with me getting a very unpleasant disease and I am now faced with dying, we don't know yet. Financially I had commitments I could meet whilst working but I am now going under. I have gone through direct debits and outgoings but not very good at it all. I think I have out goings around ??300 a month more than in comings. Went to CAB but they weren't great. Could anyone help?

sorry you're going through this, it must be terrifying.

StepChange (debt advice) are very helpful. Plus there's a fantastic, very thorough budget planner on the MoneySavingExpert website called "budget brain" which will help you see exactly where you can cut back.

Big hugs to you.

The National Debtline are brilliant. They give you a case number and will stick with you right through.
I am so very sorry to hear of your dreadful circumstances.

Sorry to hear this. If there are any support organisations for your condition they may offer access to financial advice. Alternatively try the Money Advice Service which is government backed. Did you have any critical illness cover , perhaps with your bank account?

Sorry to hear about your situation. Have you finished working? If you haven't there might be things your employer can help with - medical retirement, reduced hours, life cover?

The forums at Motley Fool have some excellent debt advice too.

Op sorry to hear you are facing this. Have you checked whether you or your partner have ever been in an occupation which has a benevolent fund set up to help when you are in dire straits? It is not just professional occupations that have these benevolent funds.

Do you have a spare room you can rent to a lodger ? From April 2016 under the Govt rent a room scheme you can "earn" up to around £7000 And not pay tax on this amount. I can understand that in your circumstances you may not want to share your home.
