On a budget, where to buy school uniform?

Where do you buy cheap school uniform from and does it last? I've got blouses from Tescos before and am happy to get them from there, the rest I've normally got from M&S when they've got 20% off. Money is very tight this year and I've got the whole lot to replace, so any cutbacks I can make would be great.

Only place to get blazer and school PE jumper is school shop and that will come to approx. £75, so that's not a good start!

Asda, very cheap and I've never had a problem with quality.

M&S 20% off is on at the moment as saw advert in store yesterday I think.

Asda. Great quality and if you have girls the summer dresses are only £4 and mean you don't need skirt + blouse.

You'll probably be able to pick up school logoed stuff in local charity shops or FB selling pages. Ask on Freecycle too, and ask parents of children a couple of years ahead of yours, I've passed on a lot of outgrown school uniform over the years.

Asda, great quality. £2.50 for two polo shirts, £4 cardigan. Check with school whether pta are doing a 2nd hand sale, ours sell stuff for 50p per item.

For little DC I liked asda, for grown teens m&s was best as it lasts the whole year.

I've always gone to Asda (two kids, yrs 6 + 2). Tried M+S once, wasn't impressed with style or quality, ended up replacing bobbly cardis after 2 months with Asda's.

Aldi do a special on uniforms during the holidays but they don't get much in. Last year, I was at my local Aldi at opening time, bought dd 2 skirts, pk of white shirts,school shoes and 2 pairs of gym shorts for about £20. Check their website on a regular basis to see when they have it in. Deals usually start on a Thursday I think. She's 8 btw, also have ds(12) and they didn't really have anything for his size so I ordered his from Asda but the quality isn't as good. Matalan is also good all year round.

Tesco have started using the same stay New technology as marks Spencer and is much cheaper polo shirts so far have been great, we have had a variety this year found asda shite, sains great and often do 25% off, marks good but expensive(our logo stuff is from them too), debenhams expensive and as poor as asda. Aldi been ok for money

Both our schools have a box of uniforms that have been donated or left with no name tags. They are free to whoever wants them - might be worth asking if your school does the same.

Thanks for your replies. It's a comprehensive and I know they don't have second hand stuff available. I don't need to get anything right now, so can look at the places suggested as and when I'm passing. She's going into Year 10, so it'd be great to think this was the last lot of things I'll have to buy.

m&s i have ds1 who has finished secondary school now and ds2 who is about to go to yr9 and the m&s shirts are worth the extra if you can stretch to it. For girls I'd say even more so as the asda shirts were virtually see through, as were the Tesco ones. buy one pack and wash and dry or get dd to change as soon as she comes in from school, as long as she's worn deodorant and changed they should be ok for more than one day.

Skirt wise I wouldn't say it was as important and you can get away with cheaper supermarket brands, dd has some sainsburys skirts that are fab. although the m&s 2 pack for about £12 has been great and lasted two years, will only be buying new as shes much taller now and they are too short. Tights for a teen, primark if you have one nearby or asda.

I get school stuff for my 7 yo dd in Sainsbury. I really like the cardigans 2 for £9, polo shirts and summer dresses which wash well. Keep an eye out for their 25% off events.

Yes, two school skirts for £6 in Sains yesterday - had not tried before so good to know PPs say quality is OK!

My children are 11 (boy) and 7 (girl) and I have always bought their uniform from Asda (apart from the logo sweatshirt, cardigans and coat). Always washed really well. My son's trousers are still like new (that I got last summer).
My eldest starts secondary this year and we have a long list of uniform to get. I am getting the logo PE kit and blazer but everything else will be from Asda (I have already bought trousers).

M&S are still really expensive, even with the 20% off.

Asda always sell summer stock off in September. I have always picked up summer dresses (for the following year) for £1 and boys grey shorts for £1.50 (were £6). I live close to an Asda so it helps!
I also bought a 2 pack of summer dresses, from Sainsbury's, a few weeks ago for £2. Got the next size up for summer 2016.
