YNAB question

I have just downloaded this last night (after finding that I can get it free as a student) and have been ploughing through getting my balances on etc

But my financial month runs from 17th to 17th.

Do I really have to work out budgets of what I think I'll spend between 17th and end of month and then 1st-17th in separate bits? So in effect doing everything twice.

That's easy for stuff like mortgage and that which comes out just after pay day but other ad hoc stuff comes out in dribs and drabs, so how do I budget that spread over 2 months?

Thanks!

Bumping if there are any YNAB experts about (it's pretty much muddling my mind altogether!)

How do you get it free if you're a student? I've been wanting to get it after using the free trial, but cant justify the expense!

You just email them with proof of your studies (I'm on OU so just forwarded an image of my study record, I did it from my uni email address too) and they send you a code, it lasts to the end of the year so I guess you reapply then if still a student or pay. If you Google then the address should come up, it was the support address I sent it to.

No, when you get paid on 17th you allocate that money to what ever bills you need to pay with it. It doesn't matter if those bills come out on 20th of that month or 10th of next month. I get paid on 27th but most of my bills come out on 2nd of the next month. That doesn't matter, I allocate the money to whatever I will need to pay before I get my next salary. Does that make sense?

Yes I get paid on 26th and really struggled with this. The idea is that yes, you split it as you said in your OP. Once you're used to it, it's fine.

I have 4 differing income streams, child benefit, Dhs pay, my pay and CSA. They all fall at different times, but I have my head round it now.

There's a webinar specifically to deal with this - irregular pay cycles or something? Have a look. Well worth it!
