Pass I'm so sorry .. so all the men got jobs and not the women huh? What utter bollox

Laska42 · 08/01/2015 19:27

Well NSD for me.. this was good , but I suspect that only happened as i was unable to leave work lunchtime because of a stupid meeting..

Have had some good news in that the tax situation re potential pension lump sum payout on my AVCS is as I thought.. i.e no tax payable. This means I am well on the way to having enough in my campervan fund to be able to retire early in 3 years time when i am 60 and actually buy one (assuming im not made redundant as work in public sector also like Pass) .

The house insurance renewal arrived..its £288 but s does include world wide travel insurance. But think ill quidco for some more quotes

Iamnotanugget · 08/01/2015 19:31

pass you can check with cab but I'm fairly sure that once you've had it confirmed you're being made redundant you can start a new job without a change in package. Would be worth checking as if your dream job comes up now you don't want to miss it because you think you need to stay unemployed a little longer.

£2.50 in Sainsbury's paid with points.

SpottyTeacakes · 08/01/2015 19:32

Pass that's awful! Sounds so dodgy Angry

I made it. It might be a bit above me but I would take it anyway. 19 other people have applied though...

HeyheyheyGoodbye · 08/01/2015 19:41

So sorry pass Flowers

Fingers crossed Spotty!

JoanGalt · 08/01/2015 19:48

'Lunch' in Starbucks cost £11.23 but I enjoyed getting out and both DDs seemed to have fun.

I ended up spending £50.80 in Waitrose Blush but that includes nappies and lots of reduced items for the freezer. Two lots of meatballs, smoked salmon, 6 tins of fancy sardines and naice tinned tomatoes.
Still, I should just avoid going in future.

NurseDoctor · 08/01/2015 19:56

Ememem84 I recommend selling wedding dress on Preloved rather than ebay. May take a bit longer but I got a really good price for mine. Often people on ebay want something for nothing!

RobinEllacott · 08/01/2015 20:19

Thanks, pass. Hope your dream job is just round the corner. I agree giving all the jobs to men sounds seriously dodgy.

Total, utter frugal fail for me this week. Out to dinner with two colleagues/friends last night (posh dinner, lovely evening, lots of wine): my share of the bill came to nearly £70 Blush. Then today lunch with two ex-colleagues, but that was only £15. Tomorrow lunch with two friends from college days who are briefly passing through London, so that won't be cheap either. After that, no more socialising for a while, so time to cut back seriously!

Pointlessfan · 08/01/2015 20:29

I've only spent £1 today on playgroup and made a risotto and a bread & butter pudding using up left over bits, stale tea loaf and 2 eggs close to the use by date.
I really need to get my head around cash back sites, I don't really understand them!

needastrongone · 08/01/2015 20:44

Just had to spend £17 on a school trip for DD. I forgot this one. It's one that comes highly recommended by DS, who did it last year. It's to a holocaust museum (she's in Year 9).

babsmam · 08/01/2015 21:25

Spend £9 in Morrison but in stuff we use all the time and was on offer so a long term saving. £50 on DS judo (budgeted) then got bill for DD judo £50 (forgotten about) £25 on a holiday to Cornwall in the summer. Will work about the other £1400 in May when it's due. Grin.
NSD tues and wed though.
NSD tomorrow too.

Hope stuff works out for spotty and pass x

fuzzpig · 08/01/2015 21:43

8/1
£29.74 DH top up shop... Went off list a bit :o don't really mind as it was useful stuff.
£1 2x bath creme on offer
£6.64 fitness gadgety thing (DH's pocket money)

That's all DH spending, NSD for me personally.

Did then realise we are nearly out of milk, and out of shampoo - hopefully DH can get some of the latter on offer at work tomorrow.

I still have lots of 'pocket money' built up but dithering over what to get, even though my many many wishlists are full to bursting :o

MissMysticFalls · 08/01/2015 22:06

My frugal win this week has been stocking up on veg and fruit from the local farm shop (not a fancy one, just an honest-to-goodness rough and ready type of shop). They were selling boxes of about 25 little clementines for £2.50, huge celeriac for £1.50, big butternut squash for £1, 25kg sacks of potatoes for £10. I spent £17 stocking up on root veg, fruit and cheese. I probably could have got it a bit cheaper in ASDA but that's a long drive for us and can't believe I'd manage to avoid buying anything else, plus it's all coming from local growers.

Another win was that we made pizzas using defrosted dough I'd already made but didn't have any pizza sauce so made some by processing a few tomatoes, adding garlic and oil and a squirt of ketchup, then draining it a bit. It was gorgeous and sooo cheap and DS (3) thought it was yummy which is a bonus.

Frugal fails - ran out of time to make lunch for work yesterday and spent a fiver on sandwich and a drink and flapjack. So tired from two big client meetings that had a takeaway and took DS to Harvester this evening.

Oh no collie, I'm so sorry :( Thanks

AuditAngel · 08/01/2015 23:14

Collie sorry to hear that, we lost a relative on Saturday too.

£3.60 and £5.50 for two lots of parking (visiting other offices), but can reclaim from work. Didn't get enough time to make a pucked lunch. £7 ish in Tesco to buy meal deal, plus extra bag of popcorn and some lots of chocolate.

Tomorrow will need diesel and £1 for parking to drop DDq off for panto. Last show on Sunday. Looking forward to it!

306235388 · 08/01/2015 23:16

Been ill all week so haven't been updating here. I personally have spent zero money because I've not been out! Dh has spent about £90 on shopping and £30 on petrol I think.

Oh, I tell a lie, I bought a CD for £11.

306235388 · 08/01/2015 23:17

Collie Thanks

CremeEggThief · 08/01/2015 23:32

Sorry for your losses, AuditAngel and Collie Thanks.

I haven't posted for a while, but I've been keeping a mental note of my spending over the last week.
Monday- NSD.
Tuesday- £8.73 in Lidl.
Wednesday- £7.65 cafe lunch and £2.04 in Tesco. £9.69.
Today- NSD.

I am trying to live off £75 a week for everything, except rent, bills, DS's bus pass, school lunches and Scouts and £100 a month budgeted for Christmas and birthday gifts; clothes and shoes; and hair and waxing. I am a supply teacher and I have a few hundred to fall back on, but this is what I have when I don't work, so I want to try to stick to it as much as possible.

sportinguista · 09/01/2015 06:06

collie sorry for your loss Flowers and pass Shock at them just giving jobs to the men! don't they get how dodgy that looks.!

WeLl yesterday was a bit Spendy - £3.50 bus ticket as had appointment at hearing clinic for DS so a pound for his ticket too. Then around £6 groceries and stuff for DH sandwich. £2 tea lights but we're marked down and will last a long time. £17 on iPad mini case but need to protect it as it'll just get ruined.

Today will be fairly Spendy as will need to renew bus ticket for myself and DS but no other expenses I can think of.

But here is recipe for chick pea soup...

2 medium potatoes
2 medium onions
1 large carrot
3 cans chickpeas (pref in salt water)
1-2 medium carrots
2-3 Savoy cabbage leaves
1-2 cloves of garlic
1 veg stock cube

Peel and chop potatoes, first carrot, onions, garlic and 2 cans of chickpeas (along with liquid from their cans) plus the stock cube into a large pan or stock pot and top up with water to cover all, boil and simmer for around 20 mins till soft, cool and blend. Add final can of chick peas plus last carrot chopped into small cubes (tiny) , shred cabbage leaves into thin strips minus stalky bits, top up with liquid as necessary and add salt and pepper to taste then cook until carrot and cabbage are soft. Remember to stir frequently as chickpeas tend to end up at bottom and can burn so need a low heat as well.

You can use dried chickpeas and usually half a bag of the EastEnd brand is sufficient prepped as on pack.

This makes a lot of soup as it's a Portuguese recipe and they tend to assume you have a family of at least 10Grin!

Ememem84 · 09/01/2015 07:16

Thanks nurse will look at preloved. Dress has another day left on it's listing. So will let it run out and check out the other site.

lilacclery · 09/01/2015 09:29

This thread is moving superfast, I didn't get a chance to look at it for over 24 hours and had 4 pages to catch up on! We'll be on a second thread by week 2, to me this thread seems even more popular this year than last.

Sympathies to collie and auditangel, italianwiking haven't heard from you in a while hope your friends baby is doing ok x

I had NSDs Wed and Thurs this is rare for me, and yesterday we had odds and ends from freezer - chicken satay, a chicken roulade, a southern fried chicken piece leftover from a takeaway, 2 chicken marylands and brown rice. This fed 2 adults and 2 children and there was loads of rice left, I think my weighing scales needs a new battery so that's in the fridge for special egg fried rice at the weekend!

I'm in the process at the moment of transferring direct debits for mine and my husbands account to our new shiny joint account, and figuring out what's paid in cash and how best to divide it up fairly. I'm doing this on a spreadsheet to ensure that nothing gets missed and I have a printout to show dh when it's done.

Has anyone tried the fakeaway from slow cooker fb group? I've got everything in except for the mince so I'm thinking of doing it tomorrow night and making Fri/Sat night fakeaway night in our house. This will mean freezing the rice, actually maybe egg fried special rice tomorrow night and fakeaway Sun night instead..sorry thinking aloud!

needastrongone · 09/01/2015 09:51

I am sorry for your losses collie and audit.

lilaclery I have seen the fakeaway fb recipe thing on the slow cooker group, but haven't tried it yet. I would need to read it thoroughly too, I have only skimmed that one so far.

I do need to go out today, so will spend a bit.

Next - school trousers x 2 for both DC, £40 (ordered £80 worth but just for sizing)
Farm shop - eggs and bacon (might not go there, haven't decided)
Alterations shop - collect a shirt
Feed shop - conditioning/build up cubes for pony

We are not out at the weekend so will be a low spend affair.

I also need to do my baking and soup making today too, if I possibly can.

needastrongone · 09/01/2015 09:51

sporting, the chickpea soup sound lovely, I love chickpeas!
