Shit, Shit, Shit!!!
DH works, I don't. We have 1 DC.
DH doesn't get a great wage. (23,000 a year) I went over board and spent too much on family for Xmas this month. We're 2 days after payday. I have £110 to last just under 3 weeks. I have a kitchen full of food, did all my food and toiletries shop yesterday. Am I silly? Can we live off this? Am I being over dramatic? Eeeek! I am worried. Tips to make the money stretch? Thank you. Blush

Hmm a kitchen full of good in my eyes is a weeks worth of food. OP may need to add milk, bread, Christmas food, the usual Christmas events and school costs into the mix

£210 plus whatever she got for fridge and coat to last a month for food only and she goes away to family for xmas so no xmas food to buy. For two adults and a child? Perfectly doable without any discomfort.

FruitCakey · 09/12/2014 11:35

I am a week and a half into it already (and since starting this thread) which means we have 1 week and a half until we visit family for Xmas and get our remaining £100. We are coping perfectly well, still have plenty of food and £60 to last us for the remaining week and a half. Brew

Glad to hear it OP. I'd think you'd gone terribly wrong somewhere if you couldnt make that money last with everything else paid for.

TheHermitCrab · 17/12/2014 13:13

You've paid for everything and still have money left over. Of course you can live off it.

2 days after pay day for me, and for the 2nd month in a row I have £30.00 for the month (and I haven't bought food yet) No overdraft or credit available. So I'm stuffed.

Oh and I haven't bought one Xmas present for anyone (and obviously won't be doing)

Oh and my first child is due on the 15th Jan :/

lol

So yeah... you'll manage :)

Good to hear op. I thought some people were overly mean. Out of interest, do you think you'll adapt what you cook/buy in the future? I ask this because since DH became a sahd, we've had to be a bit more frugal than previous (and need to do better) but whereas before I would think nothing of spending £150 to £200 on a weekly shop, if it comes to more than £75 I'm shocked. We've become better at recognising just how much we used to waste.

OP I've just got back from dropping Christmas treats off at a foodbank near me for families for whom your story is one of comparative wealth. I don't mean to sound harsh but I am being honest - the 'predicament' you've found yourself in is actually a situation many people would give their eye teeth to be in.

All pressies bought, plenty of food, bills paid, and £XXX left. There are many (some of whom have posted here???) who have a fraction of that to last until next payday and not as a result of getting a wee bit carried away with their gift shopping. I can't help but wonder if it might be good if you 'replied' to those people as well as the other PP's you have replied to?

It must be really frickin' difficult to see your dream solution presented as someone else's 'problem'Sad and I send my thoughts and hope to those who have posted in utter strifeThanks

You will just have to manage and do better in future.
You said that while present shopping you kept remembering people you had forgotten. Next time make a proper list.
Perhaps then look at that list and make sure you are buying presents for the right people.
Frankly an awful lot of presents are not needed and keep obliging people to spend money they don't have. Even on occasion putting people further in debt
