Regardless of being frugal, cutting back or just buying what you want?
How much do you spend weekly or monthly on food & toiletries/cleaning stuff.?

70-100 a week for 5/6 depending if my daughter has her bf here or not

Pregnantagain7 · 16/11/2014 21:40

£200 a week for 2 adults 4 kids (2in nappies) 2 dogs and 2 cats. That's everything though toiletries, nappies, formula, cleaning stuff. They only thing I don't buy is alcohol as we aren't big drinkers.

TerrifiedMothertobe · 16/11/2014 22:19

About 120 a week for two adults and two young children. All of us have healthy appetites and we also drunk wine regularly.

Mainly home so most of time that includes three meals an day for 4 of us and also feed two cats.

It is interesting reading through. I hate that our food bill is so high. We end up spending about USD200/wk between our supermarket and costco. DH brings home pork. The alcohol budget is set at $200/month but DH blows that up every month. Drives me crazy because no one should be drinking so much and I hate it when DH shops because the food goes rotten.

When DH is away I plan out the week of meals including what the packed lunches are. I then shop to that plan and I save so much money. It helps with my weight too because I don't end up with food to snack on. I drink about a glass or two of wine at the weekends so I like to buy one nice bottle for $20+ but DH drinks the whole damn thing everytime. Drives me NUTS.

180 quid a week Ocado shop, includes beer, cleaning products, toiletries. Two adults and three children. Kids have packed lunch every day, DH and I do about three days out of five (mostly homemade soup).

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 17/11/2014 22:01

We aren't frugal but I hate throwing food away so we meal plan to avoid waste.

About £100 per week for 2 ad 2 dc and a dog.
Dc have school dinners everyday.
We only eat meat once or twice a week and buy from local butchers along with free range eggs. Bread comes from the bakery and buy fresh stuff from fruit and veg shop. Rest from supermarket. we eat well.

Sunnydays999 · 24/11/2014 20:00

Nope not reading it wrong!

I do a shop every month where I just buy frozen veg that's the £40 ish.

Then we spend approx £10 per week on milk/eggs and fresh fruit.

Then another £100 odd every 3 ish months on pasta/rice/lentils/flour/yeast etc plus value tinned toms and stock cubes, coffee/sugar, toiletries, toilet paper, cleaning stuff (buy a huuuge bottle of dish soap, several lots of washing stuff and then vinegar/bicarb) plus this is when we buy large blocks of cheese/butter which get cut up and frozen and about 4-5 lots of 3 for £10 meat packs which also get divided and frozen.

I make all our bread, make stuff like cereal bars and snacks for packed lunches and only have home baking.

It's like this because we don't have more than that to spend. Tbh if I could cut it down further I would as we can't afford heating and we live in the highlands in a house above the snow line so it's always cold. It's a choice between heating and eating though so we have lots of warm clothes and extra blankets.

W0uld u share some of ur recipes ?

JamaicanMeCrazy · 24/11/2014 22:48

Sunnydays999 · 27/11/2014 10:27

Hi Jamaican family type meals ? It's amazing how little you spend !!!

imalostcause · 27/11/2014 20:41

Sunny, that's great. Would you share your recipes for cereal bars and packed lunch snacks ?

imalostcause · 27/11/2014 20:47

We spend 8.50 per week on our veg box and about 45 on everything else at Aldi plus milk and bread etc top up of about 5. That's for myself, dh and teen dd. On top of that we buy cat food for 2 cats at about 13 per month and dog food for 1 dog at about 8 (fed raw).

JamaicanMeCrazy · 27/11/2014 22:17

I will start a new thread for it, then others can put in their cheapie recipes too Smile

60-80 pw here, all in - wine, washing powder, dishwasher tablets, cosmetics for 2 adults & 2 kids (10& 13)

We have to make everything to keep to that budget - beer, wine, bread (including tortilla, naans), jam, chutney, cakes, random snackage and ketchup. All meals are made from scratch and no eating out (there is no where near that is any good!)

We have an apple tree, raspberry canes, blackcurrants, plum tree, strawberries, tomatoes, herbs and salad and they all make a huge saving on raw ingredients. We live in the country so go foraging for blackberries, sloes, bilberries and wild garlic.

Spices are bought in bulk from the International Supermarket (if you live near Manchester get yourself down there it is fantastic) and east asian noodles, spices & sauces are bought from the chinese supermarket.

I appreciate I have the best of both worlds - working in a city and living in the sticks. I do seem to spend a lot of time cooking ... Hmm

greeneggsandjam · 29/11/2014 16:45

Between £40 and £45 a week to include food, toiletries and cleaning products. 1 adult and 2 children plus a kitty. Its very boring and I would really like to have £60 a week to spend on it all.
