*That's in a week not a day!

R4roger · 25/10/2014 12:13

18 pints a week or more, 3 teens and me and dh, i get 12 pints delivered but run out. but can't really work out just how much.

strawberrydaquari · 25/10/2014 12:14

We use at least 2-3 litres a day. 3 dc are big milk drinkers, I enjoy my white coffees and we use some in cooking. Dh hardly touches the stuff

Fairylea · 25/10/2014 12:14

To be honest as an ex vegan (for 26 years) if you have issues with dairy produce then you shouldn't really be eating any animal or by product. It is (in mainstream farming) all pretty much as cruel as each other.

Having said that. . We drink a lot here. I have soya milk in my tea because I prefer the taste but there are 4 of us in the family and we get through about 4 pints a day.

DurhamDurham · 25/10/2014 12:16

My family do t get through much milk at all, there's me, hubby and two teen girls. We only use milk in tea and coffee and the odd bowl of porridge. I but a 4 Pinter at Aldi once a week and we rarely get through it. We love cheese and yoghurts so I think we are getting our calcium intake.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 25/10/2014 12:19

Two adults and a 3yo - a two pinter of.semiskimmed and a 4 pinter of whole, three times a week. Always finish the Whole (dh and dd drink it), I usually have about a pint of semi wasted over the week.

Artandco · 25/10/2014 12:38

2 pints of lacto free milk
2 pints coconut milk
2 pints almond milk

That's between x2 adults and x2 children. Most goes on porridge, occasional tea it as a drink

Shallishanti · 25/10/2014 16:09

Waltzingwithbares, is that the 'rule' for organic milk? we get organic milk from the milkman for welfare reasons- but I've never been sure how rigourous/uniform they are. Eg if we get organic milk from sainsbos will it be the same?? am esp concerned re the male calves
I would REALLY struggle to give up dairy!

Greengrow · 25/10/2014 16:46

Awful stuff. A poison almost for many of us. We just drink tap water - much much cheaper.

WaltzingWithBares · 25/10/2014 17:57

Shallishanti, it is not absolutely set in stone, but it is something that the organic guidelines are working towards, and within a definite timescale. See this info from the SA who are our organic certificating body.

In practice I don't know ANY organic producers who dispose of bull calves these days. They all either keep themselves to fatten up, or sell/give away to neighbouring beef farmers. In recent years the price of beef has been robust enough for dairy bull calves to be kept viably anyway, which has been good news.

Your other question - basically the answer is yes - if you buy organic milk from Sainsbury's , it's the same as buying organic from your milkman in terms of standards. The two main certificating bodies in the UK are SA (Soil Association) and OF&G (organic farmers and growers) and the vast majority of organic produce in this country is regulated by one of these two.

bronya · 25/10/2014 18:10

About 12 pts per week. Two adults and a toddler. I'm pg though and am craving milk (2 mugs a day so not excessive amounts), use it to make gf bread and toddler has cereal for breakfast, milk before bed.

Shallishanti · 25/10/2014 18:15

thank you WWB. I always wondered why they didn't just rear them for beef.

crazykat · 25/10/2014 18:45

We use 4-5 pints a day. 2 adults and 4 kids. The kids have cereal every day and ds2 drinks mostly milk.

We use more in the winter as I usually have porridge instead of toast when its cold.

sunflower49 · 25/10/2014 19:03

I am vegan but don't disagree with the organic farming methods like waltzing describes. However I hate milk for other reasons so don't consume it and we don't use it

I buy soy or almond, one carton lasts about a day and a half but we're not cereal people or milk drinkers, It's only for cups of tea and cooking.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 25/10/2014 20:28

Me dh n ds 4yrs n lucky if we finish a 4pt bottle in a week. Ds only has it in porridge n us in tea, husband occasionally has cereal n will drink it up in a milkshake if it's about to go off.

Greengrow · 25/10/2014 20:45

We don't even have soy or almond milks. I just don't see the need for or point of milk. If you don't like hot drinks and don't eat cereal but prefer eggs/veg etc instead milk is kind of irrelevant.

Those with not much money can save a lot by drinking only tap water =- no alcohol, squash, orange juice, coffee, milk. It's much cheaper and so much better for children too.

toothlessoldhag · 25/10/2014 21:57

2 litres full fat (for DS teenager)
3 litres semi for (for DH and me)

what's that in pints? around 9 I suppose.

All (independent, not supermarket own brand) organic, as is our yogurt, for that matter.

RedSoloCup · 30/10/2014 14:26

Definitely 3-4pints a day (five of us) I don't limit it at all though as it's one of the healthiest things they drink lol :)...

CremeEggThief · 02/11/2014 20:56

My 12 year old DS and I get through 4 or 5 pints a week, mostly for cereal, tea and coffee.

neversleepagain · 03/11/2014 22:00

14 pints a week. I drink very little, DH has a lot of tea/coffee. Toddlers have a drink every morning and evening.

ireallydontlikemonday · 05/11/2014 15:05

12 - 16 pints a week, Toddlers have milk morning and evening, and this time of year they and DH have porridge or weetabix. DH and I both drink tea / coffee as well.

mrsdavidbowie · 05/11/2014 15:12

About 4-6 pints a day..2 adults and 2 teens

AdoraBell · 05/11/2014 15:21

We don't use much milk. Normaly 1 litre per week unless DDs have friends over and I make a ton of pancakes.

Yoghurt is a different story in this house. DH has 5/6 individual pots of set Greek yoghurt and between Two teenager DDs and me we Get through nearly Two litres of yoghurt each week.

UriGeller · 05/11/2014 15:21

About 2 pints a day of whole milk for the kids breakfasts and drinks. Then 1 or 2 bottles of Jersey creamy milk for rice puddings, a litre of almond for DP and a couple of 250g tubs of cream. Then there's the full fat UHT I use to make yoghurts. Loads.

UriGeller · 05/11/2014 15:22

That's a week. More if we have visitors.
