Our plan is no takeaways. The odd glass of wine maybe or bottle of beer. Not a full bottle between us when both off the next day. Sending ds1 to college with a sandwich instead of money for food crap. Ds2 buys a panini at school so he can just carry on doing that seen as he's quite fussy. I'm going to try using up things lurking in the freezer and the grocery cupboard.

I'm not a big spender but little things add up don't they?

We had a long distance wedding to attend this month and that's skint us. We need to save for ours next year. Not that ours will be a grand affair but we have a honeymoon booked and we need to pay for food etc..

Anyone else scrimping? Tips greatly appreciated.

For the longer term, have you looked at changing your utilities? Do you have anything you can live without like magazine subscriptions, sky, Netflix?

Have you had a look at some of the other threads on here? There are sone on cooking on a budget which might be helpful.

Thanks Jilted, yes we've changed utilities. I have Netflix but need to keep that. Don't have Sky.

I'll look at the other threads thanks.

We're usually scrimping a bit Smile

We find shopping around helps, having a well stocked spice/herbs cupboard (add to rice etc, or make a cheap and healthy curry), check the deli counter for bits that have been left and are reduced and normal reduced sections and don't be afraid to make the most of deals and freeze excess!

JiltedJohnsJulie · 24/09/2014 19:10

Where do you do your shopping? I've saved loads since I ditched Sainsburys and changed to Lidl.

FreakinScaryCaaw · 24/09/2014 21:23

I shop in Morrisons because we get 10% dissy. But I do like Lidl as it's near my work.

I forgot about the meat bits, we used to get them years ago. They're great for sandwiches and pasta etc... thanks for reminding me.

If you are sticking with Morrisons, I would make lists and stick to them. Maybe do without the wine altogether and do OctsoberSmile

Try some veggie meals eg lentil based curry.

Go through out direct debits and see if you need/want them all.

Look through your statements to see where your money goes.

If you drive make sure you check tyre pressure regularly.
