lists it took me a month or two to get into actually spending less. It was a good month of just being astonished at how much I spent when I thought I was being 'good'! Eventually I realised that actually although it's lovely being able to treat myself (I'm thinking here of menu plan out the window/burger making type things, which we used to do a lot of), actually we're just not financially in a position where we can do that, so we don't, end of. It sucks, but it's the only way for us to get out of debt.

MissAnnersley I am soooo jealous of your allotment! We used to have one and it was brilliant, but we've moved and the waiting list is something like a decade, and since we hope to be in our own place with decent veg patches by then, we have decided not to go on the list. Can't wait until my mum is next down as she can help me pot up some herbs and things at least (I can't do anything as can't lift at all atm). We rent and have quite a lot of outside space but it is 99% gravel/paved, so everything needs to be in pots.

Had a proper frugal dinner on saturday - leftover picnic food from DH's trip out with the DCs. It was rather nice actually Grin.

Ellisisland · 17/03/2014 09:52

Morning all Grin

Had a NSD yesterday. Have decided to set myself a challenge this week of NSD until I do the food shop on Friday. Don't have any other little expenses like birthdays this week so should be able to do it as long as I don't leave my lunch at home when I go to work!

Was also reading the mortgage free in three blog and liked the way she broke her massive sum into to little bits to make it achievable so I have done the same. Need to save £10k for a house deposit so have broken that down into blocks of £500 and am working on saving £500 by various ways then focus on the next one and so on. Hoping it will keep me motivated. Smile I figure we got ourselves out of debt by do things like this so now going to do the same for getting us a house. Will be nice to actually get something at the end of the hard work this time rather than just getting back to zero.

SpottyTeacakes · 17/03/2014 09:57

Good idea Ellis Smile we will never be able to afford a house Sad the three bed semi round the corner from me (grade II listed one bathroom) is on the market for £675k. At most we might be able to do a part rent part buy which is better than nothing!

Ellisisland · 17/03/2014 10:27

Spotty - house prices just depress me sometimes Hmm we moved from London out to Wiltshire though so they are more affordable where we are now. We owned a one bed box in London and that was ridiculously expensive. We would never have been able to buy a house there!

ilovepicnmix · 17/03/2014 13:34

5 on new wellies for DS. 1 on entry to local urban farm. I hadn't been for years and it was great. I can see it being a regular haunt. 2.45 on coffee and biscuit in the cafe. I can't wait for even just slightly better weather as I'll then be more inclined to take a flask.

House prices in the south make me go Shock I think my wee flat in London would go for three times what it would here.

NK5BM3 · 17/03/2014 18:48

AuditAngel · 17/03/2014 20:58

30p for a doughnut for DD1 after her dancing lesson, unfortunately she has to wait for DS to finish his lesson and she was starving! (She always is)

CremeEggThief · 17/03/2014 21:51

£4.40 on Pilates.

Turnoffthelights · 17/03/2014 22:19

AdoraBell · 17/03/2014 22:36

How's the pilates going Creme ? I must get back to mine now that DD's school is open tomorrow. All declared safe by the health dept.

Spent £53 on groceries today. Will need more veg later.

Will catch up properly later.

MissAnnersleyismyhero · 17/03/2014 23:47

ooh possibly just saw your post there now! We are so lucky to have gotten the allotment, we asked for one in the right place at the right time.

There is such pressure on the spaces that if you don't use it they take it off you quite quickly, so we've been trying to get up there and get it cleared and plant things. Still loads to do though.
The plus side is that it is free exercise, with potential free food! Grin The other allotmenteers are so nice as well, we've had offers of using people's tools, advice on what to grow, offers of cuttings and seeds and even people's surplus veg. Such a nice community.

AdoraBell · 18/03/2014 01:37

MissAnnersley I have the same problem when I scoff skittles, there must be something wrong with them.

Where I used To work one of my colleagues had an allotment, and moré veg than they could cope with so the whole office got a bag full when they had a glut. I would like To grow veg here but as we're trying To sell it seems pointless To put much effort in.

Audit could you take a snack for DD if she's always hungry after her lesson?

CremeEggThief · 18/03/2014 08:54

Great news that school is open again, adora. I am enjoying the Pilates so far, but I've only been twice.

CoolCadbury · 18/03/2014 10:44

Morning everyone. Smile

I am so annoyed. Angry Gap have a sale on of children's clothes so I bought winter gear for DS at half price. All good. Except I paid £4 for delivery and today, they have started doing free delivery. Grr.

But good news. My car needs MOT and service in a few weeks (that's obviously not the good news) and I'm trying to get the best deal. So far, I have managed to haggle £30 off. Smile

Will now go back read the rest of the new postings.

Ellisisland · 18/03/2014 10:45

Cadbury - try emailing them they might refund it to you. I had the same issue with another site a while ago and they refunded me when I complained.

Possiblyorange · 18/03/2014 11:56

Cadbury I hate it when things like that happen. I was so glad I forgot to place an ASOS order for some vests and things the other day (long vests to layer for BFing) as I got a 25% off email yesterday and the vests I wanted were in it.

Frugal win: I'm making veggie curry tonight for dinner, so mega cheap meal, but I'm tempted to try out slow cooker doner kebabs one day soon.

Frugal fail: I have been keeping veg in the utility room all winter because it stayed really cool. Apparently it doesn't do that now that the sun has shifted round slightly (and is actually shining occasionally), and the big bags of carrots and potatoes I bought 10 days or so ago are now really manky. Am cross at having to throw out about £4 worth of veg and trying to work out whether we can make some cold-food-storage space in the garage without plugging in another fridge (my mother has one she keeps trying to donate to us, but would rather not waste the electricity just for veg).

northender · 18/03/2014 13:01

I'm on my last day of a weeks leave today. Dreading going back tomorrowHmm, I need a plan B [dreams] or a lottery winGrin.
It's been great having time at home, I'm trying to get ahead frugally today with some cooking and baking. I've cleared all veg out of the fridge and am now using everything I can. We're almost out of bread and I've got lots of flour so doing a couple of loaves at the moment. Lentil and bacon soup done, next is a curryish mix of spinach cauliflower and potato to have with curry from the freezer tomorrow. There will be enough for 2 meals, how do you think it would freeze?
Later on I'm going to put some things on eBay to hopefully get a bit of extra cash.

AdoraBell · 18/03/2014 13:08

Possibly do you have freezer space/time to cook the veg? Even if you just chop and fry/saute for use in future dishes.

Glad you are enjoying pilates Creme.

Fluffycloudland77 · 18/03/2014 13:09

Cadbury if their customer services brush you off google the CEO of the company. Keep it short, un-emotional & you usually get what you want. If its free returns you could just return & reorder.

£20 petrol
17p sanitary towels.

northender Soundlike it would freeze well. Are you doing the Hugh F-W bread recipe from the other frugal thread?.

OP posts:
AdoraBell · 18/03/2014 13:12

I always freeze veg curry, works fine.

northender · 18/03/2014 13:41

Okay will go for it and freeze the extras.
fluffy at the moment I've been using the recipe on the side of the aldi flour which works well.

Ellisisland · 18/03/2014 14:48

NSD here second in a row. Aiming for number 3 tomorrow which will be a record for me!
Get paid on Thursday but have to pay nursery fees and car insurance renewal out of that so won't last long Hmm

Have never made bread before. Is it easy to do or will I get frustrated and start throwing dough everywhere ?!

SpottyTeacakes · 18/03/2014 15:07

My soup that I batch made spilt in the freezer and loads of stuff is now covered in it Hmm
