Anyone want to join me for a no spend week?

I'm going to try it-the grocery shoppings done and really this is about me not spending for emotional reasons. I fritter money that we don't have a lot of on magazines, coffees out, treats for the children. I figure having at least one spending free week a month will really help. Sorry if there's another thread like this-had a quick scan and didn't see one.
Anyway, I'm starting from tomorrow and the main things I'm going to watch for are:
Non essential driving-I often drive to get dd2 to sleep
Magazines-going to read a book or craft instead
Chocolate and snacks-going to bake using what we have in the house
Coffee-going to make at home
And I'm going to avoid town like the plague!

Yeah much better thanks. I had some weird thing that caused my eye to swell up and water constantly, but it seems to have passed now! More uncomfortable than poorly, though it did bag me a day off work cos I looked so horrendous! I was quite proud of myself for only getting what I went in for. I never normally manage that lol. That's great about the kids - at least you didn't have whinging to contend with as well haha. I'm not looking forward to when DD can say 'can I have...?'. DH is lovely, but a total pushover and I KNOW he'll just say yes to everything. But I shall be good at saying no by then! xxx

Definitely on for this will do Monday to Sunday next week as away for the weekend. Have tesco delivery ordered for Monday so really should have no reason to go to a shop

Had no spend scuppered again by unavoidable cake purchase at school event. But dd2 slept without car so no unnecessary spending. I think it's a success so far. Finished my book and planning to borrow not buy next one.

Trust me, oh help, this self control thing is very new. I just looked back at last weeks spending and feel sick and shocked at the same time. I couldn't keep this level up all the time, unless funds actually really weren't there, but I haven't missed the extras this week and if I could do it every other week I think I'd cure myself of the frittering habit I've developed. I don't want to go at it too hard because I think it'd be a bit like crash dieting. I'm so looking forward to my treat on Tuesday!

Well, avoided town today, but didn't argue with dh when he suggested asda tea for dc and onesies for the older two. But I put a pair of tights back out of basket and didn't have coffee while dc ate so I think it's dh's spend not mine. And asda was £63 with everything we need for the week and no unnecessary extras. My slate is clean!

Personal spend zero today-family swim and machine snacks afterwards. Tried to get waitrose coffee too, but we were too early so has it at home. I can't wait for my treat on Tuesday!!!!

My weekend has been terrible - I have well and truly fallen off the bandwagon!

Glad to hear yours has been better! xxx

You've been poorly-not surprised Hmm I do think the test for me will be what I do when I inevitably have a splurge. Previously, that's just made me go "oh well, in for a penny in for an undisclosed but frightening amount in small, frequent purchases". Going to try to just get on the horse again. D'you need a leg up? Wink

Haha I'm back on it today. I think Mon- Thurs are easy for me, but then on a Fri I finish work at lunchtime and go pick up DD. That means I need to entertain her for an afternoon (which usually involves some kind of paid activity, though this week we went to the library Smile). Then I need lunch for me. I'll try to remember to pack a sandwich this week I think.

I also went out on Saturday, which wasn't cheap. I don't go out very often though, so don't worry too much. This weekend is Valentines (and my birthday is Monday) so we're off to a gig, but that's paid for and I even already paid for dinner (Groupon) so hopefully that won't push me too far over.

On Sunday all my family are coming round for cakes and cups of tea, and I have a reputation for doing home baking. That's gonna be expensive! I need to do better at identifying my triggers I think xxx

So...had to spend three quid on parking today and bought choc biscuits for a pound for after school. Did well though-made coffee before I went to work and made a big pot of soup to avoid the quick lunch urge. Treat tomorrow!

Eek! Finished no spend week and spent £60 at ikea! But I was careful to just have my free coffee and bought exactly what was on my list. Going to be sensible this week, but not avoid things that involve a cost. Bought mag as a treat Grin
