I'm planning on throwing my other half a sir pores party for his 30th bday. Prob is I am on a v tight budget. Worked our there may be around 120 ppl invited So guessing 100 maybe will attend?
Any ideas on the cheapest possible way to do this and what costs I am realistically looking at?

we (me and dh) had our 40th in a local club. The hall hire was free (£40 refundable deposit) and they had a bar so people bought their own drinks. I hired a dj (£160) and got a cake (£52) and some balloons (£75) for the tables. You could spend less on cakes/balloons, etc. What is your budget?

Did you provide food? I was thinking would have to spend around 300 realistically but would like to spend less if possible

forgot the buffet! we had a choice of 3 price ranges provided by the club (they didnt allow food to be brought in) - ranged from about £4 -£6 a head. I wouldnt cater for the full amount though as you normally end up with loads of leftovers.

Could you cut down the amount of people invited?

Can you not ask everyone to being a plate of something and a bottle? That way you only need to hire somewhere and you can also cook some food yourself. My parents did this for my 18th birthday party years ago and we had a great time. We've done the same many times since. Tbh if anyone was offended by the request I wouldn't class them as real friends.

I was surprised by how cheap village halls are to hire until I looked into it for DDs 3rd birthday. £7-£10 per hour. we had a great place for £27 for 4 hours. Will be using them again. So much better than having people to our house.

Totally agree with Splatt - hire a village hall and ask everyone to bring food and drink to share. (Also make it clear 'no presents' Grin). Sorted.

Hire a village hall or church hall near you, and then make it a BYOB invite and ask your closest friends and family if they can bring along some party food to share.

Make it clear by the time of the party or even the wording on the invite that they need to eat their supper first, and just have nibbles, rather than having to feed everyone a meal.

Alternatively see if you can get a chip van to park outside the hall and peoplecan go and buy their own chips and other snacks.

You can decorate a hall without it costing you loads.

What is your budget?
