I usually have this done once a month which costs me £25, would I be silly, in an attempt to save a few quid, to do this at home myself? Anyone do it?

Yes to eyebrows no to eyelashes! It's simply not worth the risk of getting it in your eyes. Eyebrows are very easy and quick and much easier than applying pencil.

I have been doing my eyelashes since I was a penniless teen. Buy a kit, it's easy and I have never got any dye in my eyes. Just make sure your dye is fairly thick and put it on like mascara.

Thants · 03/01/2014 22:14

Home Eyelash dye is completely banned in the USA because it is dangerous to eyes. Please don't risk it.

Eyebrows easy, I swapped to save costs last year and it's fine and costs about £14 for six months.
Never tried eyelashes, as the previous poster said , not worth the risk.

Been doing both for YEARS with Dylure from Boots. Funnily enough, I did mine this very night.
For eyebrows I would recommend washing it off VERY thoroughly as any left on continues to develop (slug brows, anyone?) and for eyelashes I would advise two coats.

perplexedpirate · 03/01/2014 23:01

Oh, and mix the potion very thoroughly, or it doesn't develop as well.

I also use the same product from boots, and do both no problems do it for ages absolutely fine

I've used the kit to do my eyelashes. I think the kits £7 in sainsburys.

It might be cheaper on amazon, sometimes you get lucky.

souperb · 04/01/2014 16:22

I dye eyelashes as I am really rubbish at mascara. I did it with the kit from Boots for a while, and never had a problem with getting it in my eyes. But with small DC I just found it hard to find the uninterrupted time to do it and did a bad job because of rushing to do it before anyone woke up. So I shopped around and found a much cheaper place to get it done. If you are inept or harrassed like me, that may be a moneysaving option. Otherwise, home kit is not rocket science.

Thanks girls, will give it a go I think but be very careful!

Or maybe try your local beauty college? You'll pay alot less than normal salon prices, but the students are well supervised, and the products will be professional standard.

I do it. Bought a professional eyelash kit called refectocil from amazon (or ebay, can't remember). Got the tube of dye, the developer, a mixing pot and a brush for about £11 and this will last me years.

I just mix about 1cm of dye with about ten drops of developer. I stand in front of the mirror and carefully paint it on...then walk off and forget about it. If I go to wipe it ten minutes later nothing usually comes off.

Never had any problem. On the rare occasion it's gone in my eye it stings, I blink and swear for a minute and dab my eye cautiously and it passes in a minute or two.

NB - I am very cavalier! My way of doing this may be ill advised. Works for me though!

I've just ordered eyebrow dye tonight, so fingers crossed that works as well as this does for me!
