Sorry, couldn't resist going overboard on the J's

Happy new year y'all. Welcome to expert budgeteerers, newbies, lurkers and de-lurkers. We're a very friendly, non-judgmental bunch so please use this thread as you choose whether it's as a spending diary, to confess your money sins, ask for help or have a general whinge at the cost of living.....

I don't really count NSD's as I only really shop on a Saturday and spend between £60 - £90 depending what we need.

Hope every one is doing well on what you want to acheive.

northender · 12/01/2014 22:36

What a day! DVD's final audition didn't happen as the rehearsals would've clashed with an am dram production she's in in Feb half term. We should have found that out earlier but just didn't think. She was gutted and sobbed for a while but is quite philosophical now. The rehearsal schedule is crazy for children. Every Sunday for 3 months plus 2 evenings (until 2130)a week for 2 months. I'm relievedGrin , her am dram is much more fun and manageable.

Hope you enjoy your new sofa claret
Dh spent £20 on diesel, £2.50 match fees for ds' football and £5 on a cable for the TV. Every day needs to be an NSD this week!

northender · 12/01/2014 22:37

Should've read dd's of course! Autocorrect againBlush

FreelanceMama · 12/01/2014 22:43

BlueandWhite I meant spring bedding as in plants - although would rather get the linen kind; I've been in a relationship with some of my duvet covers longer than I have with DP!

AbbyLou · 12/01/2014 22:53

Well I had a good find - £6.42 in an old coat poacket! That will pay for sw this week at least! Not often that happens to me, I can usually account for every penny.

2 NSDs this weekend. We mostly do visiting family/walks/home stuff at the weekend so not too much of a challenge. DSis and I have clubbed together for the stuff to do gel nails - not money saving as such as I've only ever once paid to have it done but it was a nice pampering treat.

I could do with getting laundry stuff tomorrow but don't want to extend my outing with potty-training DD so might have a go at laundry gloop. I've got soda crystals and plain soap in but not a very large pan or anything to store it in so it'll be a small scale trial.

Adora hope your eye is better soon.

Spendy-ish day today. Bought some stuff for DS that was necessary (cloth nappy related), but paid for out of gift money so not a proper spend. Then £17 on a takeaway, because we felt like having a treat Smile As ever though, it was through cashback and had 40% off Grin

Otherwise, that was it. Might have to spend a little tomorrow and day following, working off-site so no access to a kitchen and can't carry too much with me, we'll see how it goes. At the very least will probably buy a coffee, but where I'm working it's not too expensive (maybe £1-1.50?) so at least it's not chain store prices. Will pack plenty of fruit and granola bars however and will probably make myself a wrap or something similar to take with me.

AdoraBell · 13/01/2014 02:32

What was that Spangle? Not sure I read it right first timeWink

NSD for me, DH Spent a bit on food out tonight as was too hot To hang around here, went out at 8pm and it was 39 C. Had an hour or so walking round air conned mall then eating, back home To the oven now.

Haven't decided what's on the agenda Tomorrow yet.

North that's a shame that they clashed, but sounds like e relief To avoid all that rehearsing.

ArtemisatBrauron · 13/01/2014 10:31

NSD yesterday, won't be today as I have to leave in my dry cleaning for all my work wear.

Sorry to hear about your eye adora I hope you feel better soon!

Is anyone on the No New Clothes for a Year thread? Am thinking of trying it but it's quite scary...

SpangleMaker · 13/01/2014 13:26

Sorry about the multiple postings last night - iPad had a mind of its own!

Laundry gloop made (gloop def the right word!) and first lot of washing in the machine - looking forward to seeing how it's done.

Should be a NSD.

Nahmate · 13/01/2014 13:29

Nsd yesterday :)

£1.50 on 3 pairs socks for dd in the sale
56p on milkshake for dd

adora hope you feel better soon!

SpangleMaker · 13/01/2014 13:33

Artemis I joined the 'no new clothes' thread. TBH I have managed to give up the constant frittering on clothes - I tend to shop seasonally nowadays - but I am Bad the 2or 3 times I let myself loose. It's mainly staying away from shops that's worked. The only occasion recently I had time to kill in a city centre I spent over £100 Blush. Had to give it to DH to give me for Christmas.

ilovepicnmix · 13/01/2014 14:09

Dropped off a few bags of stuff at the charity shop and left with new jumper, book and shopping trolley for DS. £3.22 on milk, bananas and yoghurts in Aldi.

Shouldn't spend anything else today as we're just going to the bank to move my isa across.

ArtemisatBrauron · 13/01/2014 14:16

£59 on drycleaning Shock I need machine washable suits

Fluffycloudland77 · 13/01/2014 15:58

I can never afford new clothes, I splashed out on two summer tops and a pair of jeans last summer.

£10 petrol
£2 on two cat collars.

I need an e-mop. NEED one I tells ya.

My free tap inserts arrived today and I've fitted them plus some free pipe insulation for the thin copper pipes.

CremeEggThief · 13/01/2014 16:37

£20 on breakfast club for DS (2 weeks worth) and £20.90 on food shopping.

northender · 13/01/2014 16:57

Have had an NSD today but overall not good news for my tight post Xmas Jan/Feb budget. Had someone out to look at the leaky conservatory. £120. Podiatry rang with an appointment for ds on Friday. That's obviously good but they want him to bring in his football and cricket shoes as well so his insoles will fit all. His current football boots are getting too small but we were trying to hold out until the end of Feb. So now I feel we need to get them before Friday.
So our surplus built up so far this month has been wiped out and I'm just hoping that the overtime I'm due at the end of Jan will be more than I've budgeted for and will cover the overspend on footy boots and the conservatory.
On a good note, we've stuck rigidly to the meal plan and shopping lists! My football team have an FA cup match tomorrow. It isn't covered by my season ticket so I've decided not to go (saving £15). That is a major thing for me but I'm sick of missing budget targets so am much more focused this time.
I haven't joined the clothes thread as clothes has never been a vice of mine, thank goodness as I have enough other spending vicesGrin.

Sorry for double post!

AbbyLou · 13/01/2014 19:36

Hi all, still plodding along trying not to spend anything. Today was a successful NSD.
I am so looking forward to getting piad, not just for the money but also because I feel I can actually start our new regime properly. January is such a funny month to budget for and I feel we will be able to start afresh in Feb. Dh and I are opening a savings account with the £115 we won't have to pay for council tax next month and adding March's to it too. We need to start building up some half decent emergency money!

NK5BM3 · 13/01/2014 20:31

Nsd!!
