I really want to give this a go.

I really want to, but I know I'll get bored and start looking in TK Maxx within a week. Then there's the sales. Boots 75% sale will be on about the 2nd week of January. All those bargains. Forget it, it's not possible, I'm a sucker.

I'm not buying any clothes because I'm going to lose two stone and nothing will fit me by the summer

nkf · 29/12/2013 21:18

Tootiredtobewitty - how did you work out the daily interest on your mortgage?

Hi all - have made significant strides this AM feeling very pleased:

Have knocked off calls package on landline, upgraded to fibre optics and paid for a full year line rental in advance this has saved me £14 /mth

Took sports off sky package another £14/mth

I knew our energy payment was high at £216 per month (wtf) anyway have switched suppliers but not submitted readings - I have and we were £940 in credit, this is being refunded and payment reduced to £100/mth.

I am using this to payoff a huge Next Account (evil)

Im also returning a couple of things to recuop £200

I have looked atrolling monthly contract SIM card for £7

I think this will save me £225 per month inc no longer needin to pay for next account which I am closing as part of buying no clothes this year.

This means we can make a moderate overpayment on the mortgage. But it also relies on us being carefule with petrol, food budgets and discretionary spending.

LaurieFairyCake · 01/01/2014 14:41

Ok, first day of buying nothing for me.

I will also be looking to reduce costs like on the frugal thread (today I hung my washing up on the airer instead of tumbling)

I also need to buy nothing as that's my main problem. I buy from EBay/qvc/amazon every week.

I've had a £15 off a 60 quid shop from sainsburys today so I will be using it to stock the fridge of essentials only.

Worked out the interest on my mortgage. Eye opening. Really shocking. But breaking it down like that was a good thing to do.

tootire good point about he big pebbles, I have booked 3 short holidays and one weekend.

I have to cut my cards up AND dispose of them. So I cant still use for online purchases for 'back-up'.

I might try the enveloped thing for my weekly incidental spending.

LaurieFairyCake · 09/01/2014 20:15

How is everyone doing ?

I've managed to only buy a couple of kindle books so far. (Had credit on my account ) so haven't bought anything yet Smile

TooTired - you're doing really well! That's all essentials.

Brilliant how much you've cut your shopping. I'm the same since Aldi opened last month - I've cancelled my two week Ocado automatic delivery and am only having it when I can make massive savings. I went to Aldi yesterday and got £35 worth of top up food - mostly bread/fruit/veg.

I've still got a lot of cakes/biscuits/sweets from Christmas so I don't think anyone is going to feel deprived any time soon.

Im doing well - I ve just done a basic but trying the keep it healthy shop with Waitrose for £53 - you get a free bottle of champagne for orders over £50 - I thought we can keep it for when we finished drying (until Feb half term) We go on holiday then and its all inclusive.

Im struggling to see how I am going to cope with an unexpected wedding - they have asked for cash for honeymoon.

If the mortgage we are applying for is approved in principle I will have to strip back things even further but postponing study and reducing overpayments on debts to minimum. It is going to be a tight agressive budget.

I am happy to report my:

BT bill was £32 nearly half previous months due to package change.
Got £940 refund from overpayment of energy bills and payment reduced from next month.
Pleased to send DS to school in new shoes I got ages ago. Its great when yu can pull a bargain out of cupboard and it 'comes into its own'

I am still agog now at all the stuff in the house. We just have too much clothes...everything.

Our luxuries are gym and sky - think I'll be doing a lot of swimming and movies over the next 6 months. It is going to be tough.

OTH was shocked at how much we have been paying for our mortgage, if you are not plannning on moving it is worth checking it all and get on a fixed rate - keep seeing/hearing about the m going up.

ashamedoverthinker · 10/01/2014 13:56

inclusive - meals only!
