Ok I have officially been converted to Aldi but the only thing that puts me off slightly is how busy it is in there
So there's a lidl near me too and I'm going to do a weekly shop in there this afternoon
What do you recommend and what's to be avoided?

I love their smoked streaky bacon, the mini stollen bites are gorgeous the pork and apple sausages are great. There's so much to love about Lidl imo. :o

My old lidl was like a jumble so I steered clear but the one I'm near now is all lovely nicely laid out, and it never seems to be very busy in there
I've heard good things about their meat so will give that a try
What is stollen?

Stollen is a German Christmas cake, its like a fruit cake containing dried fruit like raisins, apricots ect and covered with sugar or glazing, very yummi.
Our local Lidl is amazing, their fresh bake corner is a hit in our home, their cheese is nice, fruit last longer than Tesco and their washing tablets are better and cheaper than else where. In general I love both Lidl and Aldi, but I am also brought up with German stuff, so its a bit like home for me, :D

Excellent cooked meats, yoghurts, continental cheeses and cottage cheese. I buy those from LIDL through choice because I like them so much. Other thing - depends on the sort of things you buy.

Well I managed to get everything on my shopping list apart from broccoli(sold out) and eggs (couldn't find any)
And it all came to £45 Grin

For next time - they generally have lots of eggs in huge boxes (size of an extremely large washing machine box) standing by themselves. They're easy to miss if you don't know where they place them.

Their own version of Bailey's is £4.29 a bottle......there's no way anyone could tell the difference it's that good!!! They do a Pimm's as well in the summer, and that's as good as the real thing too, I think it's called Jeeves.

Fruit and veg no worse than Sains, and a pack of three peppers is usually about 80p which is what they want for one in the big supermarkets! They do a fab smoked barvarian ham which is lovely for pizza topping (and only 99p at the mo). Toffee Pecan Roulade (frozen) is divine. All their cleaning products are good, plus the hand soap and the shampoo/conditioners.

I don't think I've bought anything in there we haven't liked, but there are some things they just don't do so I tend to go to Lidl first then Sains or Tesco for the bits on my list Lidl's don't do. It's SO much cheaper in Lidl that I don't mind the extra effort.

I get their hand wash too, apparently it's very good if you have ezcema.

Lidl muesli is brilliant.

Clothes washing detergent 'formil' is excellent as is washing up liquid etc

CitrusyOne · 01/01/2014 21:34

I have bought lidl anti bacterial washing up liquid and it smells like nail varnish remover, and I bought ocean breeze flavoured (?) surface wipes and they smell like cheap aftershave. I do love the bakery stuff.

Bought pate for Christmas and then studied the ingredients list and the second ingredient was 'chicken connective tissue'. Yum. Not.
