Anyone finding that Npower have changed their tariff since you applied?

Hi. Applied for Dec17 fixed tariff with Npower in October and heard nothing, so last night we rang them and were told our supply would be starting tomorrow, even though we haven't had any paperwork. When we got them to confirm the unit prices they were completely different from what was on their website when we applied.

They are saying they will lodge it as a complaint as the website might have been wrong - but it was THEIR website! I've heard that they've been overwhelmed with new customers because of all the price increases, but to me this sounds like a very dodgy thing for them to do. Basically, the original tariff had a higher standing charge but lower unit costs, so the tariff they are now saying we will be having is going to cost us more.

Has anyone else had any problems with this?

Tell them you won't be completing unless they honour it or offer you something better than the current tariff.
Be wary of lodging their complaints - the time it takes you will have gone through as a customer of theirs and they'll hope you can't be arsed with the kerfuffle to change over again.
I don't remember the time frame for this particular kind of complaint as I dealt with different ones but the time allowed ranges from 28 days - 3 months, possibly longer.

You are right it's their website problem but you don't have proof now - for future anything you get a price for online, screenshot it and save it for later, just in case.

Thanks - I've had to lodge it as a complaint as they are saying the tariff they are quoting is what has always been quoted.

I've worked out that based on average usage this will cost us an extra £30-35 a year - not a lot but I'm sure there must be a lot of others who will lose out, so I'll be asking for that amount back for each year the tariff runs.

We don't have a printer at home, so I should have got a screenshot - I won't make that mistake again!

I'd have a look around the net on other forums to see if anyone else has had the same happen - if the info was online then there'll be more people who seen.
I don't ever remember taking a call from only 1 customer (unless they were genuinely mistaken) so hopefully if you come across anyone else maybe they might have a copy/screen shot.
It's worth a try, maybe start with the Martin Lewis site first. Also, you could call to the Energy watchdog - if they've had other complaints regarding the same thing then it could help.

Doesn't matter whether it's 30p or £30 it's your money.

We are Npower customers already and are switching tariff, we had a letter/email about the price hikes not affecting us as we had applied prior to the hikes, I would check for any emails along those lines or I can c&p the email here.

Npower are useless tbh but keep fighting

gretagrape · 06/12/2013 20:37

Thanks - I will! They've been really crap already and we've only just joined them - oh well, only 4 years and we can move to another crap provider!

M1SSUNDERSTOOD · 10/12/2013 19:48

Just noticed yours is dec 17 and mine is Apr 15 so not comparing like with like.

lagoonhaze · 14/12/2013 22:33

Thanks for posting the tariff though. I think they've done this to me. Need to check

gretagrape · 16/12/2013 05:56

M1SSUNDERSTOOD - I had written down the 2015 tariff but have thrown it away now as didn't go with that one, but I'm sure it was also different from what you have been given as the standing charges were only about 55p per day for both. Maybe their IT guy decided to have a bit of a joke on the British public the day I logged on...

Hi has anyone else received a bill from N power which is in credit? I don't see his but my bill is now £1.00 they owe to me! No idea unless they have applied the tariffs retrospectively a and I paid too much to begin with.

Sorry for hijack but i thought I would check here first before phoning N power.

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/12/2013 12:27

You should email the CEO of the company to complain. Be polite & concise.

They tend to get things done.

AloePickle · 16/12/2013 12:32

We have just moved into a rented property are leaving npower and are waiting for our final (and only) bill and have just received a letter of apology from them as they are moving everyone to a new computer system and are having loads of problems, especially with new customers and billing. It says they have an extra 800 staff to answer calls so I would ring as they might have messed up at their end.

youbethemummylion · 16/12/2013 12:36

Were the prices quoted on the web and by the advisor with or without vat if one is with and one without it will account for the difference. There is usually a simple explanatiob for these things
