Adora that sounds so bloody frustrating. Some people just make life difficult. Fingers crossed for you it all turns out well.

PicNMix I feel exactly the same about this thread, been lurking for ages and its just made me feel normal! Lol at you feeling guilty about the can!

Claret sounds like you got a great deal on car unsurance, only £6 extra for comprehensive? brill. Definitely worth having.

Spent €6 on a dvd rental, had promised DS1 he could have one if he wrote his homework down neatly every day this week. He has dyspraxia and finds it very hard, so dont mind on that one!
Spent another €6 in Tesco on bread, milk and cereal. (Dh is coeliac, so expensive bread and cereal, no option for frugality!) Havent topped up since the big shop on Monday and wont need to go again, so I am very happy. Usually spend 20-25 euro on top up shops!

Tomorrow is going to be a disaster tho, the kids need some winter stuff and DH needs new boots. Just hoping I can stay within budget!

CremeEggThief · 27/09/2013 22:08

Spent £4 today, and used my £3 voucher for the Co-op before it expires!

I have to get a cake and wrapping paper for DS tomorrow, as it's his birthday on Sunday, and some milk and croissants, but that should be all until Monday.

Hope everyone has a good weekend :).

confusedofengland · 27/09/2013 23:20

If anybody has a tassimo machine, they are doing a £10 voucher code on their fb page until 29 September, just like them to see it.

AdoraBell · 28/09/2013 02:46

Spent another £5 at the greengrocer's, their veg is much cheaper than the súpermarkets. Bought four peppers to use for DD's lunches, 1 red onion, bananas, pears, maderins, cauliflower and broccoli plus a norty snack for DD2. That will last úntil about Tuesday on the veg and about Thursday on the fruit.

OH has avoided bread Today and felt much better. He has been told about gluten free pasta and bread. I pay 1,800 Chilean pesos for a kilo of good quality local pasta. The gluten free pasta, also locally produced, is 8,000 per kilo. And we can only Get gluten free bread in Health stores. He's doing without for now and has taken my sugestión of a food Diary and tríp to the Dr. to find out if it is gluten or something else. Although given the amount of wheat product he consumes on a daily basis I'm not surprised he has a problem.

Tomorrow will be NSD.

Hope everyone has a good weekend and happy birthday to Creme's DS for Sunday Cake

Thanks adora :).

Productive morning already. Woke up early(ish) for a Saturday so wrote a shopping list and went to Morrisons to do my weekly shop. It came in at £84.07 which I was initially a bit shocked about but now I've come home and looked at my receipt it's not too bad. I have got stuff in for 9 evening meals including a joint of lamb which was nearly £6, and a week of packed lunches for the kids. I'm also buying stuff in for mine and DH's work lunches in order to stop us spending up to £25 a week on shop bought lunches. I bought 88 items which isn't too bad, as prior to food prices shooting up I used to estimate £1 per item which used to work out almost right at the till, but nowadays the pounds spent is always more than the number of items so I've come in at just under that. Although there were a lot of 'value' tins in there.

Also included in that £84, £1.20 was actually on 2 x tupperware boxes as I now have an abundance of boxes and lids none of which match each other! I made a Lasagna for tea and it didn't all get eaten so I've decanted it into 3 x tupperware boxes so it could be another evening meal there but more likely it will become work lunches for DH and I.

So the separate money starts today. I went and took out £190 for DH and put it in a tub in a cupboard. He's come downstairs this morning and said "DS1 needs his haircut and so do I" so I replied "I'll give you a fiver for DS1 but you have to pay for your own". His reply "that's not fair....." - my reply "it's not fair that me and the two kids have to manage on £190 and you get that all for yourself". His reply "yes, but I need to get my hair cut twice a month so that takes me down to £180" and my reply "and I have two boys who need their hair cutting once a month so that takes me down to £180". I will not cave in. He's making sarcastic remarks disguised as banter but I will NOT give in.

(PS, the £190 is 'want' money not need. If we ever get desperate for anything I have the emergency money to fall back on). I also can make savings on my food budget.

Fluffycloudland77 · 28/09/2013 11:36

I think men are essentially selfish creatures. I don't mean that in a "all men are bastards" way either, more that they are determined not to lose out.

He could always go to the local training college, some do a free night for men.

Can I say hello? Need to keep an eye on my spending, but I am trying to eat paleo as much as possible so no grains or legumes. Also I try to get organic veg & meat when its affordable (sometimes not much in it - lovely grapes over summer from tesco only £1.50). Apart from that I usually get basics/essentials/frozen or offers and give finest type ranges a miss. I use the 30p washing up liquid, 27p tea bags etc.

theonlypink I have sometimes seen breadmachines on freecycle. Would this be an option as you could make your husbands bread - you would need to buy a new pan though. Doves farm white bread mix turns out pretty well. I think it would work out cheaper and the bread is better if more unpredictable.

giraffeseatpineapples · 28/09/2013 16:26

Talking of organic; sainsburys so organic tins of chopped and plumb tomatoes are 2 for £1.

ilovepicnmix · 28/09/2013 19:18

Im delighted to day that today I have spent only £3.65. Not bad for a Saturday. That was for envelopes, postage and a colouring in book for DS. This morning we went to the library and this afternoon was a friend's house. Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Fluffycloudland77 · 28/09/2013 19:36

£3.30 in aldi but its stuff we won't need to buy tomorrow now and £6 on fish and chips tonight.

I'm trying to get my car insurance down, I'm getting quotes of £170. I had a non fault accident and its putting my quotes up.

Tomorrow I may buy thermals with my M&S voucher, if the store has them in stock. Which they won't.

If anyone wants thermals the M&S outlet has them buy one get one half price but you have to pay £3.50 postage. 3% cashback on topcashback.

claretandamberforever · 28/09/2013 20:15

Fluffy I aspire to have quotes of only £170 with a non-fault accident. I have a 13-year-old car and 9 years no claims and I was excited to see I could get fully comp for under £400 this year!

Anyway, it was a NSD as far as personal spends have gone.

Sadly the same cannot be said for DH who thinks £190 in his pocket means he is Rockefella as he is now on his third visit to the pub since 6pm last night, and he's also to my knowledge bought an 8-pack of lager, and two bottles of wine to drink in the house. I will NOT cave in when he's ran out of money halfway through the month, I will NOT.

Fluffycloudland77 · 28/09/2013 20:24

Claret, you stand firm. He won't learn any other way.

You are not his mum.

Sorry working all weekend this week so haven't really scrolled through all posts. Hope everyone having a good weekend. Predictably as I'm at work with food sponsored by work I'm not spending anything. So have had 2 NSDs in a row. Today too probably.

Spent £85 on coffees but that's claimable.

Dh spent £60 at waitrose I think which sounds good too.

Fluffycloudland77 · 29/09/2013 09:13

help that reminds me of when I had £60 cashback come through, I was very pleased.

Cat got into amassive fight and needed vet treatment, £60something.

How does a cat get covered in fly eggs though?

ArtemisatBrauron · 29/09/2013 15:04

Do we have an October thread yet? I need to get back on track, we're still feeling the impact of having bought all the paint, furniture etc for new house and I am keen to pay off the CC debt that the move incurred as usually I don't have any debt at all apart from student loan which comes out of my salary anyway.

AdoraBell · 29/09/2013 17:26

Ohhelp hope your cat is okay now.
