Value Bread

Hi

Has any-one tried Tesco value white bread? Is it ok?

I normally get either Kingsmill or Hovis 50/50 (depending which is on offer) but I need to find more ways of cutting my shopping bill.

Hi, it's basically something stolen from bbc food

400g wholemeal , 100g strong white ( both bread flours)
2tsp quick yeast
1 tsp salt
1 1/2 tbsp butter
3/4 tbsp mixed seeds ( add 1/2 into loaf, 1/2 sprinkled ontop)

Oh and 300ml warm water

Kneed 10 mins, cover with bowl 10mins, kneed 3 mins.

I then just mold into loaf shape and put on a tray ( no bread tin), and then yes just leave in oven until morning ( myself or dh do the above about 10/11pm in between shower/ teeth. )

In the morning spray with water, cook for 30mins at 200c ( basically get up, spray, turn on, then wander off to shower/ make tea/ dress before timer goes off)

Sounds complicated but really isn't once into it. We usually wake at 6.50am and all left by 7.45/8 latest.

Rolls same- but 10 mins.

Morrisons do a loaf of bread for 60p which is lovely, really soft and tastes nice for sandwiches. I think it is called Rathbones. There is a brown, white and toaster version.

Thank-you everyone

I buy everything value except bread... I'm a stickler for warburtons ... I buy something else and it just doesn't get eaten!

Tesco value strawberry jam is lush though and is 29p!!!

forevergreek that's brilliant, thanks so much! Will try it tomorrow morning, can't wait :)

tesco value instant noodles are a fave with dd. I know they aren't particularly good for you but the ingredients actually seem to have less nasties than the big brand noodles. Plus you can just leave the flavour sachet out if you like and eat the plain noodles with soy sauce/bulk out soup etc.

Oh, and soworried, it really made me sad you felt it was humiliating to ask about buying value stuff. You know, so many of us are in the same boat. I work my backside off and have a fairy decent job, but with a family of 5 there is just never quite enough. It's so tiring to constantly feel like you are teetering on the edge, isn't it?
We were having a conversation about money at work the other day and a colleague (who I might add is an extremely well paid doctor) asked something like "I just don't understand why anyone would write a cheque when they don't have the money in the bank to cover it" Hahahaha! I just laughed in his face. Obviously never had to sign a cheque, close his eyes and hope for the best, the lucky sod!
What I'm trying to say is hold your head up high girl, we're all just trying our best, god knows it'shard work!

Well said justkeeponsmiling. Hope things look up for you soworried and just remember - you're not alone.

I normally get "half n half" bread when on offer at tesco (2 for £2). However I got some brown bread on discount and the boys didn't moan! What is Tesco brown bread like for sandwiches?
