New thread for everyone here.

Daisy hope your dog is ok. Vets can be so expensive. I've just cancelled my pet insurance as I really can't afford it but dreading something going wrong now Sad

I've had my lowest spend day this week today and not anticipating spending more today. I've bought a pint of milk for 48p. Yesterday we had a leak in the kitchen and had to buy a new hose and fixings for the dishwasher as the old one was squirting out water all over the place. That cost £11.48. And then I bought a lemon as I'm trying to stick to drinking water but having a slice of lemon in it makes all the difference.

daisychicken · 11/07/2013 14:42

I'm sure he'll be fine loopy - just trying to figure out whether its old age or something that will need medication. We don't have insurance either - it's a risk I know. With our old dog, I worked out after she died (just 3years ago) that even with severe gastro when she was 8 and then heart failure (so investigation & treatment daily), we actually were better off paying as required rather than if we'd paid 15years of insurance premiums. It's just you never quite know what might happen.....

Hope your dishwasher is fixed now. Also, are you keeping water in the fridge? I find it much nicer cold than straight from the tap.

Had a shock yesterday, I went through statements for June and worked out that all the trips to Lidl and Tesco for food/drinks actually came to double our normal food bill Shock I'm not sure quite why we spent so much but I'm clamping down now.. Kids and DH have been warned plus DH has been told i'll buy beer once a week (i dont drink & he normally goes & gets lidl's cheapest for himself but trips have been increasing plus he'll then buy crisps or coke as well) and that he has to realise that's it! Fingers crossed that being mean helps!!

loopyloou · 11/07/2013 15:03

Daisy I think most of the time you're right, but I've had a few bad experienced with pets recently - 3 cats with chronic problems that required expensive diagnosis and treatment and two were insured, but one I didn't have a chance to insure as she had the problems when we got her and they got a lot worse. After that I was determined to insure them all, but have now cancelled all apart from the youngest cat who has ongoing gum problems that may require tooth removal at any time due to chronic juvenile gingivitis (not caused by plaque but by a virus so covered by insurance). He would already have cost me approx. £700 and he's only 1.5 years old! I'll try and insure him as long as possible as his illness may never go completely away, although it's much improved, thank goodness.

Yes the dishwasher seems fine now Smile.

I keep a big jug of filtered tap water in the fridge and then add just a small slice of lemon to the glass - lovely. I don't drink anything else except black decaff instant coffee.

I seem to have done a few top up shops this week too, there's no point letting my dh shop as he buys treats which I haven't budgeted for. I've now done a big Asda online shop for delivery tomorrow and tried to cover all eventualities.

roguepixie · 11/07/2013 16:09

Well it was looking good for a NSD here today but then realised I had to put diesel in the car so £45.00 gone there. Still, it's taken it to over half a tank. That would have been enough to keep us going for most of July if I hadn't just received a phone call from school...DS has forgotten to pick up his itinerary etc etc for his school choir's tour of Prague so I'm off there tomorrow morning (school, not Prague, sadly) to pick it up. More bloody petrol used. Argh. (DS can damn well get up and come with me). And just overheard DH on the phone to say he might be heading up to Leeds next week. Double ARGH!!!!

Doing well using freezer/store cupboard stuff so shopping is being kept down. Tbh the heat has stolen my appetite (good news for my waistline too) so it's been fairly easy to avoid food shopping.

Oh, and forgot, gave £20.00 to DS this morning as he has arranged to go to the cinema with his mates this afternoon - it's his last day at school and they finished early.

Hope you can get the groceries under control Daisy and also hope your dog is okay.

Can I ask a question of those with DDs in school uniform please? How much do thick, winter weight, tights cost over there? I bought 2 pairs and they work out To £8 each here. Doesn't seem To matter where I buy them. I found that Sainsbos seem much cheaper but couldn't see any others.

wheredidiputit · 11/07/2013 16:31

Adorabell I normally get asda george tights and they are £5 for 3pairs.

loopyloou · 11/07/2013 16:47

I forgot I had to post an Ebay parcel today, that just cost me £3.00 but I will be transferring the money I made on Ebay to my bank account later today.

confusedofengland · 11/07/2013 17:24

Quite a spendy day today. Went into town for contact lens check, then signed up to plan, so £39 initially then £13/month. Had me a bit Confused as they take 2 months extra payment up front, which you only get back if you cancel (which I may well do after the first lot, then get some online to save money). Also bought 2 buckets & spades for DC for sandpit this afternoon & £4.10 in Tesco on picnic food for this afternoon. Then Asda for own brand swim nappies £3.23 (I think).

This afternoon went to estuary town where there is splash park, so spent £4 on splash park, £3 parking, £3.20 ice creams.

Tomorrow should just be my usual £3.40 for swimming while DC both at nursery, have a voucher for the coffee afterwards Grin

daisy hope your pet is OK. Also, re your parents, would they meet you somewhere halfway for a day/picnic lunch etc? We live about 120 miles from DPIL & have met them halfway a few times, finding a nice park or some such to sit in.

northender when if we move into our new house we will have to have new fascias, soffits & other roof bits to whole house including extension, total work will be about £6k, so I sympathise! Will be good when it's done though & worth seeing if it makes any difference to insurance you pay?

rogue diesel/petrol is so expensive, isn't it? Can't wait till school hols when I don't have to drive DS1 to school & back each day! I think Tesco are doing 5p off/litre atm, if you spend so much (I don't know how much cos I found a coupon on the ground & nabbed it Grin)

Thanks for the reassurances about schools, I hope it will turn out OK - I just feel like a bit of a fraud making friends at one place when he may not even be going there! Don't really know what to do for the best!

AdoraBell · 11/07/2013 18:33

Thanks wheredidiputit, that sounds more or less comparable to what I saw on Sainbos website.

Rogue hope DS has a great trip to Prague

confused you're not a being a fraud at all, good luck with the schools.

Fluffycloudland77 · 11/07/2013 18:48

£1.80 aldi
£1 co-op

takeaway2 · 11/07/2013 18:58

NSD 6 I think. Brought lunch to work. Didn't buy anything else. Grin I turn a big number birthday tomorrow. Gulp.

AdoraBell · 12/07/2013 01:56

Happy birthday for Tomorrow takeaway Thanks

£4 on salad and onions
£1.60 on a large coffee
£30 on the school related thing.

ArtemisatBrauron · 12/07/2013 08:17

I've just been having a VERY spendy few days (hair dyed and cut, new jeans on sale from £75 to £35, impulse bought a pair of wedges on sale). Need to get my arse back in gear as we have to move house in less than 4 weeks and it will cost a bomb.
Distracting myself today with packing and de-cluttering! Having a picnic tomorrow rather than eating out with friends.

loopyloou · 12/07/2013 08:51

Happy birthday takeaway.

Hoping for a NSD as I'm at work most of the day, but having Asda online shopping delivered later so £55 approx will go on that. Hoping this time I've shopped better and don't need so many top ups.

roguepixie · 12/07/2013 12:43

Happy Birthday takeaway. I hope you have a fantastic day.

Spent £2.50 on coffee and muffin (muffin for DS and coffee for me ... because I neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed my coffee WinkGrin). God knows how much in diesel (the cost of fuel makes me Shock, confused, we pay so much in this country).

Thanks Adora - he was meant to go to the Black Forest with them last summer but broke his foot two days before so couldn't as he was in plaster. He's v excited now - it'll be his first major trip without us - he's a fantastic boy though and very trustworthy...added to the fact that there are a significant amount of teachers going so all will be well.

Happy Birthday Takeaway! Flowers

Have a NSD today... only because I bought a bottle of 42p coke the other day for ds1 to take to school (bottle or cake or.. according to list for school fayre in exchange for non-uniform); ds2 is taking in homemade cakes next week. Am supposed to be having a day out tomorrow with a friend (£7.50 plus fuel) but might have to cancel... I'm hanging on in desperate hope though..

takeaway2 · 12/07/2013 16:59

Hi everyone
Was having a great birthday with kids at home (son had staff dev day and dd was home from nursery) and then dd decided to swallow a coin. So off we went to a&e. for 4hrs. And an X-ray later showed that its in that stomach. So we wait for her to poo it out.

Whilst at hospital, spent £16 on fish and chips which wasn't too nice, and £6 on magazines for the kids! Yikes.

Dh has something planned for later. I have no idea what. I guess I better get ready!

confusedofengland · 12/07/2013 17:19

Oh dear takeaway hope your birthday gets better again & DD manages to get rid of the coin! I'm sure you'll have a lovely evening with your DH.

Spent more than I thought today - £3.40 on swimming, about £3.50 on post-swimming coffee & cake (place I had voucher for was too busy), £17.50 in Tesco on bread, milk, butter etc (but should have been over £25 before vouchers so not too bad). And finally £1 on a pregnancy testing kit from Poundland (worked fine the 2 previous times, so I thought better than shelling out £££ straight away).

Really shattered this evening after a busy week, so looking forward to a quiet day tomorrow, then have tickets to a Polo event on Sunday.

ExasperatedSigh · 12/07/2013 20:48

Ooh, are you hoping to be up the duff confused?

Happy birthday takeaway, maybe dd was hoping to add to the excitement in her own special way Grin Fingers crossed she passes it without incident.

Spent about a tenner on fry up stuff this morning, to celebrate the end of DH's project from hell.

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/07/2013 21:20

Takeaway, it will be a memorable birthday if nothing else. Happy birthday I hope your having a lovely evening.

Ooh a credit crunch poas thread.

£3 on emergency food as I got home and had to go out straightaway.

confusedofengland · 12/07/2013 21:30

Yes, hoping & expecting to be. Feeling totally shattered, which was the only symptom I really had both other times (except for swollen feet & SPD towards the end with DS2), plus no AF. Also, we haven't exactly been trying, but we've not been preventing either, just letting nature take its course.

Will poas in the morning & post on here Grin

AdoraBell · 12/07/2013 21:33

Confused hope you get the result you want.

Roads £4
Parking 70p ish
Provisions for a few days away next week £26

DDs have broken up for 2 weeks winter holsGrin, which means I needed a quiet coffee with a view of the snow capped mountains -£7 as was starving after Pilates.

Hope everyone has a good weekend and hope takeaway has a lovely evening.

SpangleMaker · 13/07/2013 00:18

Ooh confused, how exciting. Good luck!

Hope you had a nice birthday treat takeaway. Apparently BIL swallowed a coin as a toddler and frugal MIL caught it in the potty, cleaned it and put it back in her purse Shock

NSD today but made the fatal error yesterday evening of calling at the supermarket whilst tired and hungry. Needed supplies for toddler group but ended up with ready meal, half price Peking duck and smoked salmon. Very nearly bought jeans but thought of having to admit it to you lot and put them back Grin

ArtemisatBrauron · 13/07/2013 07:30

Exciting confused good luck!

Hope the rest of your birthday was good, takeaway - I did this when I was 4 or 5, my poor mum searched through my poo for days to get the coin back as she was worried about it staying in my stomach for life evil child Shock now I hear about it at all family occasions Grin

ExasperatedSigh · 13/07/2013 07:44

Good luck confused! :)

Does anyone know if it is free listings on eBay this weekend?
