Super quick, because we have to have lunch then head off to the polo but couldn't resist telling you all about our bargains.

B&Q near us doing a stock take next week so clearing stuff out - we got a back door for £50 instead of £199, a bathroom set (toilet, sink, pedestal, taps, bath taps) for £75 instead of £250 (no cistern, ordered one for £29, plus no toilet seat, again about £30) & 2 curtain rails for 50p down from £20 Grin We need loads for the new house, so really pleased!

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/07/2013 16:14

£4 on nicky loo roll.

Envy I wish our b&q was doing a stock check.

AdoraBell · 14/07/2013 17:30

Huge congratulations To your DD Helena, that really is a great achievement.

Well done on those stock take bargains confused

Exhasperated hope that bath room problem is easy and cheap To solve.

Yesterday was going To be an NSD but while we were out I saw biccies were 3 for 2 so I sent DDs off with OH and nipped in for 3 packets of buscuits for our tríp. OH Did his usual trick of bringing DDs back To me and going off To do his own thing, and asking me To get x y and z, so I managed To rack up £22. Next time we need food To take away I'll send him To get it.

Have had a fab birthday weekend! Not a frugal in sight! I can only imagine dh has saved up or budgetted for the huge expense this weekend!

Went for a meal at a Michelin starred restaurant - no kids! First time in 5 years (we don't have family round us at all and till recently dd didn't sleep through). It was fab - the food and service just amazing. Kids v well behaved at friends houses too!

Saturday went for a surprise spa treat. Lovely full body massage. Fab lunch. Smile
And came home to a surprise birthday party!! Friends from all over came, and those who couldn't sent video messages. Amazing.

Can't fault dh. Looking forward to my 40s!!!!

roguepixie · 14/07/2013 22:51

Oh takeaway, that sounds wonderful. Your DH really pulled the stops out. So glad you had a lovely birthday weekend. Smile

Spendy day for me. New shorts for DH (trip to Prague) and food shopping for the week.

northender · 14/07/2013 23:00

Blimey, polo and Michelin starred food?? This is a frugality thread you know?!
It all sounds fab, I'm only Envy Grin

Munchkin08 · 15/07/2013 07:05

Confused - some great bargains' we need a new toilet.

Takeway - what a great birthday.

Petrol £15 + train pass £14.50.

roguepixie · 15/07/2013 11:40

£2.50 on two {small} bottles of water Shock Angry. Was caught out at DS's physio appt. DS will moan and whinge indefinitely if he is remotely thirsty or hungry and he'd managed to spill half the water in the bottle I brought with us!!! Argh. And he's 13 ... not a flamin' toddler.

OP posts:
roguepixie · 15/07/2013 11:42

Oh, and the little toad videoed me on his IPod and I now have the reality of my weight gain right in front of me SadSadSad.

So, thank goodness this is a frugality thread as there is no sweety spending in my future.

OP posts:
daisychicken · 15/07/2013 13:20

£44 in Lidl - mostly veg & dairy plus some reduced meat bargains (at those prices I can't resist) plus 4 cans cheapy lager for DH - he's not allowed more during the week(!)

Ds's also need haircuts so that'll be what £16ish.

Tomorrow, Wed and Fri should be NSD's but I have the vets on thurs and he's confirmed he will be doing a blood test so I'm expecting consult & tests to be around the £70 mark again...

Great bargains Confused!

Fab birthday treat Takeaway!

northender · 15/07/2013 17:00

Dh has bought an electric fan for dd's room today £15
I've managed to reduce our home insurance from £23 a month to £15 and there's £30 cash back after 3 months.
Old car went to the scrapyard this morning Sad but scrap man came with a cheque for £160 and I've sent the tax disc back which should yield another £70 so not too bad.

Fluffycloudland77 · 15/07/2013 18:54

Nsd.

I suppose it's too late to put him up for adoption rogue

roguepixie · 15/07/2013 19:58

I think so fluffy Wink.

AdoraBell · 15/07/2013 20:16

What a fab birthday takeaway so glad you enjoyed all those lovely treats.

Rogue Shock you could move house while he's in Prague

Yesterday was an NSD, I may or may not pop out later to Get salad and cheese. Not sure if I CBA yet. Dogs have just been picked up as we're off to the wilderness Tomorrow for a week. Vet will bath them and de-worm, then OH will have to sort the bill out

Helenagrace · 16/07/2013 07:26

Still trying to stay within the food budget for the month. I have fruit and veg to last until Friday and then £26 to last until July 26th. I've mealplanned and should only need milk, fruit, veg, bread and a chicken so I think that's doable if I rein in my tendency to get sidetracked by gorgeous berries and cherries in the shops.

DH was tasked with finding a hotel last night for our first child free night in six years. We agreed a budget which I thought would get us a reasonable room in a nice hotel. By careful searching and negotiation he's managed to get us a seafront, balcony suite at the Grand Hotel in Brighton ShockGrin

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/07/2013 09:05

Well done that man!

Got to do top up shop today as dh has eaten all the cheese and finger rolls since Sunday. I'm going to LTB.

Aldi are doing organic milk now, 89p for two pints.

confusedofengland · 16/07/2013 10:45

takeaway glad you had a lovely birthday, well done to your wonderful DH Smile

rogue what a monkey! Although am not listening as I have 2 small DSes who will be like that in about 10 years time Shock

daisy how old are your DSes? Mine are 4.7 & 2.3 and we have never paid for a haircut for them - DH bought clippers for about £40 & does his & their hair whenever needed. We find it less stressful, and it probably saves £20-£30 per time between the 3 of them. (I try to get mine done only when there is a Groupon deal or by salon trainees, so cheaper too)

northender it's always sad to see a car go, but as you say, you are getting money back for it. If you are not replacing it, you will save money on fuel/tax/maintenance too.

Adora have fun in The Wilderness

Helena great deal on the hotel! £26 for 10 days is definitely doable. If you go near to closing time, you may even be able to get berries & cherries too - I rarely pay more than 50p per punnet if I go shopping in the evening.

Fluffy definitely LTB, what a heinous crime Grin

Update on my spending - around £50 at the polo. Everything was so expensive and £2.50 per ice cream or ride & £12.50 per glass of champagne soon adds up (I only had a small one, my first in about 3 weeks!)

Yesterday £13 in Primark on shoes for DH, 2 pairs swim shorts for DS1 (which of course DS2 will also benefit from a couple of years down the line) and birthday present for a friend. Then £1.60 in Tesco on milk, and £2.78 in Post Office to pay a bill Hmm. 50p for toddler group & £1 for class money for DS1. Finally £11 in Tesco again on yummy bakery goods, fruit & ham (all reduced).

Today should be less spendy - only got to wander to charity shop that sells all clothes for £1, as DH wants some smart polo shirts/short-sleeved shirts.

takeaway2 · 16/07/2013 10:55

Hello fabulous people
Had a NSD yesterday and will be another today. SmileWhich takes me to 9 I think? Lots of work claims going on which is great. Have a good day. Work is getting stressful again. Trying to get out of a trip to brazil! It's not the destination it's the fact that I really have no time!

confusedofengland · 16/07/2013 11:12

takeaway I'll go for you Grin What do you do that involves such exotic travel?

Actually, while I'm here, a question for you. I am looking for a translation project, not anything earth-shattering, just something enjoyable. I have stumbled across a French recipe book of various different jams, confits etc which I would like to tackle. If I get the appropriate permissions etc do you think it would be interesting enough for a few people to want to buy? DH says that if I am translating recipe books, they should be about regional cooking, as we make jam here too, but this one has just tickled my fancy (I may do it just for fun, anyway)?

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/07/2013 11:29

But it would be french jam, this alone makes it special jam.

Takeaway, you've had way too much excitement recently. A trip to brazil won't do you any good at all Grin

daisychicken · 16/07/2013 12:53

confused my kids are 8 and 11 - I have clippers, bought for DH years ago but and I know this sounds stupid I'm mega terrified of using them and making a mess! I know hair grows back but I just have this irrational fear! DH won't do the boys (don't know why) nor himself and I have no-one else to ask (and I'd willingly swop hm cake etc etc)..

Am so proud of ds1 - got SAT results and he aced 5s all the way! 2 friend's kids also got mostly 5s so we are a bunch of proud mums this week Wink

Managing a NSD and have finally inventoried my cupboards & freezer - we have tons so with a bit of planning, I think we can eat well, spend little & make sure we don't run down. Aiming to not buy meat for a while unless on a bargain offer or well reduced.

takeaway I'll got to Brazil for you! Wink

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/07/2013 13:18

Look on you tube for videos of how to clipper hair.

confusedofengland · 16/07/2013 14:04

daisy I am too scared too, which is why I consider myself very lucky that DH will do it although I'm not letting the man anywhere near my hair Grin

daisychicken · 16/07/2013 14:29

Doesn't help fluffy! I do my own confused - I bought thinning scissors and normal hair scissors so do my fringe & keep ends neat - basic style (have done my own for 8-10yrs) but anyone else's... eek! Might pluck up courage with dh's again... he at least wont get bullied if a mess and happy to blame me Wink

Anyone have a iPad/iPhone? Just found a app to record store cupboard/freezer contents - you set up categories and then fill in as to whether item is a one off or quantities of item and it then puts in order so you can see what needs replacing - obv only works if you remember to update! It's called "fuzzy inv" - was free but no ratings, seems basic but i'll give it a go!
