Which costs more? Tumble dryer or heating?

If you left your heating on full all day while at work to dry washing, would this cost more or less than one load a day in a dryer?

Depends how big your house is , how many rooms you heat, how long you are at work, what's your heating costs

It's not me was just discussing it with a friend today, she was saying how she hates having washing sliver the radiators in the winter, but can't afford to run a dryer, but leaves heating on all day, she's out 8 till 4 and its a 2 bed terrace.

I don't know, but would hazard a guess at heating. Will watch with interest to see what other think!

I think it would be cheaper to buy one of these heated clothes driers from Lakeland. Drying clothes on the radiators makes your whole house damp. Better to out the clothes dryer in the kitchen, open the window for ventilation and turn the heating off

I spend about £110 a year as I do about 6 loads a week . In fact it will be less as I only part dry each load then hang it up.

It will take a full load of washing. I put it on early evening. Cover the whole thing in a duvet cover, leave on over night, switch off in the morning then take them all off when I come in from work.

Read the reviews. It is worth the initial outlay.

If you had a spin dryer it would get lots more water out and then you don't have to tumble dry for as long.

I worked out that my heating costs 33p plus vat to run per hour, a tumble dyer at 3kwh run for one hour on my tariff is also 33p plus vat. A 1.5kwh drier would cost me 17p per hour plus vat.

The Lakeland drier is 5p per hour.

That depends what your tariff charges, if you are on a plan that charges 23p per kwh then it's actually 11.5p per hour.

If you had cheap night rate then it's 2.5 or maybe 3p per hour used overnight.
