So, did my first Aldi shop yesterday...

Maybe its my local store (though Id have thought stock was pretty generic) but felt quite limited in what I could get. I had a shopping list but had to swap a couple of meals as couldnt get everything I needed.

I then went for a wander round Tesco with a calculator today (sad, I know l) and if Id bought their Everyday Value range instead of Aldi, the shop would have come to £2.76 cheaper!

Their nappies and wipes are brilliant. The only reason I no longer use their pull ups is that they only go to a size 5 and my 2 year old is in 4 - 5 clothes. We shop 1 week Aldi and 1 week Sainsbury's then I top up on fruit and veg at Aldi mid week. I find DD eats far more fruit when we buy there simply because we can afford her favorites (she has expensive tastes!)

We tend to buy things like biscuits, cereal, crisps, biscuits, cold meat, fruit and veg, yogurt, cleaning products and toiletries. They also do a great washing machine cleaner for those who do a maintainance wash!

If you buy the Daily Mirror tomorrow, there is a voucher for £5 off a £35 spend at Aldi!

Mines getting a bit crowded with newbs who slow the que down at the till and dawdle in the aisles.

Therefore, Aldi is shit and you should boycott it in favour of the big four.

I did a £115 shop today (5 packs of boneless duck breasts, 2 packs of free-range chicken breasts & 6 bottles of wine accounted for £55 of that) but I can always go again!

I get my fruit and veg at Aldi, along with a few other bits, then the rest at Waitrose and look like a twat at Aldi reusing my Waitrose bags

Yep, I buy most basics (e.g., cereal, milk, pasta) at Aldi, get as much produce there as I can as quality and stock vary, and then get the rest elsewhere. It does save us a ton and a lot of what they have is quite good. We don't buy the meat at ours.

Do you get the weekly sales ads from Aldi? I think that can help with meal planning. I like to bulk cook and freeze so I like the sales ads a lot for planning.

We just had a new one open near us and so far have been very happy with:
Cherry brandy - sold out now as I went back for more
Musical biscuit tins - great for presents for families with kids
Brioche
Pittas in sealed packs so stay fresh
Wiltshire cheddar - dd loves it
Own brand fromage frais - as above
Ham selection - veeeer naice
and the lack of confusion over lightbulbs. They do old style 100watt ones, with no faffing to check if size is too small or screw rather than bayonet. Admit if you need another specialist kind it may be a tad annoying, but for someone who has a cupboard of odd bulbs with no use and a hatred of expensive halogen easy break bulbs - it made my day

there are 2 regular ones & also occasional extras. lots of Christmas ones at the moment - frozen duck breasts were in on Wednesday this week (most unusual)

No problem Ponders! It did take me a while to find them back when I first signed up actually ...

I do a shop in aldi for 50 quid and thats for five people. Thats is my budget for the week as I literally cant afford anything else. I have to buy everything with this money and yes its doable but its not ideal. The problem is by sunday we are out of everything and then I skip dinners so I can feed the kids my portion.

No I am not happy to eat the same meals over again but unfortunately I don't have a choice!
