Hi All

I know that this has probably been done to death but cant find any old threads...

So who is the cheapest for gas and elec supply, i'm currently with SSE and pating £93 and £73 respectively (eek!) plus prices are going up next month so want to switch but never really done this before. Would people use the USWITCH website or is there something better to use?

Thank you Smile

I think Uswitch is probably the way to go, but make sure you check if you can get cashback for using it via either topcashback or quidco.

All you need to do is go onto the topcashback/quico website, check how much cashback you can get, click onto Uswitch (or other comparison site) through there & then go ahead & make the change. They will then give you money for a completed change (takes a while for money to come through, but it is essentially money for nothing Smile) HTH

Prices vary from area to area so it is too had to say without knowing where you are.

I would suggest using uswitch. Are you on any particular tariff with sse?

PersonalClown · 04/09/2012 10:47

I don't know if it's still on comparison sites.
MSE/Martin Lewis said they were going to be withdrawing it from them.

EDF Blue is fixed for 2 winters until April 2014. BUT (and this was the big clincher for me) there are NO exit fees if you want to leave at any time and they will email you if any tariff beats theirs by £52 a year.

There is also another Fixed deal with no exit fees. I can't remember the company though.

Look on MSE at their Utility advice and see which way is best for you. Some pay more, some pay in Wine!

You will be lucky to get on a fixed tariff from a lot of suppliers now.

It is expected that they will all be putting prices up soon.

I would have a look for fixed discount rate.

Sse's is 2% lower than whatever current prices are. I would also pay by direct debit and sign-up for paperless if possible.

I've just switched to EDF blue price promise sept 2013. It's a plan with a standing charge. As far as I can tell if you have a standing charge (about 40p a day combined for both gas and leccy) you get the units cheaper.

So I pay 11p something for electric units and 3p something for gas. I'm in the midlands. I get a 6% discount for paying by dd and do my own meter readings and manage the account online.

When I was with evil eon they charged 20 somthing for electric units and 8p or thereabouts for gas. BUT I did get a 3% discount for paying promptly. Well I wont be missing that.

I changed through quidco but I've already paid a £5 membership fee with them so if your new to cashback sites topcashback is the one to go to.

I couldnt find cashback for EDF so I switched through quidco using Energylinx, they are a switching service similar to Uswitch but offered £35 cashback whereas Uswitch offered £20 or thereabouts.

I also turned the water tank thermostat down to 55 60c and that wiped £30 a month off the bill straightaway.

So far my DD is £53 per month for dual fuel but I expect that to rise over the winter.

I'm on an online fixed tariff with Scottish power, £48 a month dual fuel, fixed until 2014, no exit fees.
Get your annual usage from your current supplier and use it to shop around the others.

I stayed with Ovo, was paying £113 per month last year and accrued quite a big credit balance -a £300 refund due this month (hurray!)

New DD is £105 for 3 bed semi just West of London(Middlesex)
