selling Jewellry

Does anyone know where I can sell a quality diamond ring?
I have a diamond eternity ring (from ex husbands father). I need to sell it but when I took it to a jeweller and one of those 'we buy gold' places but they said to sell it priv ately as they could only give me a price for the weight of the metal.
I'm nervous about selling it on ebay its worth over 2 grand. Would an antique seller be interested? It must be over 60 yrs old.
Thanks for any advice

How about an auction house?

Yes, you would.

Some jewellers will buy second hand rings, but like anything else it's only worth what the highest bidder is willing to pay.

You can set a reserve price in auction houses.

I was really sad and disappointed at how little my second-hand jewellery fetched. I had a ring that had an insurance value of about £2000, but it was only worth a bit more than a tenth of that when it sold on the auction market. I only sold (through a reputable firm, at a special jewellery auction) because I was desperate. And it took two attempts, because it missed its reserve the first time. :(
