Anyone know if I can re-negotiate the price of my electricity?

I have been on a fixed price deal with eon which is due to come to an end. I have been paying just over 6p per unit, they have sent me an offer of a new fixed price deal but it is over 9p per unit! They tell me this is 6% higher than their current standard charge but I would be protected from any further price rises for 2 years. I am shocked at the big jump, is there anything I can do?

Switch provider

I have just switched to EON Age UK Fixed which is 8. something with no standing charge and 3.8 after 670 units per quarter. Oil prices are likely to go through the roof soon so your best bet is to get on a fixed deal now before the energy prices get hiked up.

I just rang then up & got their standard deal fixed till april 2013.

Look on some comparison sites, see who has the best deal, then call your current provider and ask them to match it. If they can't match it, switch. A lot of them are doing this at the moment. I think they are hoping customers don't notice and don't challenge it.

There is so something bizarre regarding our electricity supply that means I have to pay a fee when I switch provider (something to do with the supply cables, builders being cheapskates that caused us more hassle) so I'd rather try and avoid that. Will give them a ring and see what they say. Thanks for the responses, it helps to know how much other people are being charged per unit. I tried googling that but couldn't find anything that specific.
