Can I just offer a few suggestions to feel a bit more festive for broke people like me this Xmas?

Very simply...

I've borrowed Xmas DVDs from the library for the last 3 weeks for £1 each.

Spotify for free Xmas music playlist

Portable North Pole for Xmas messages for the Children

Xmas books from the library (obviously)

I think that's it :) All the usual things still apply, but I'm so in love with my library at the moment!

I should have explained a bit more... I was going to buy Xmas CDs, books and DVDs on Amazon, but was mighty pleased to have a significantly cheaper option. After all, in just over a fortnight we'll have no need for them again for another 12 months Shock

Your ideas are lush too though :)

tooth brushes, socks and knicjers are great stocking fillers- and are useful

Have a look at the for sale and swap pages on fb....some real bargains to be had, charity shops too... Walks in the dark to see Xmas lights and displays. Xmas crafts. Singing and dancing competitions.

If you can afford it or have most or all of the materials I recommend:
*Pine cones, on their own is good, but if you have silver or gold spray paint/glitter then that's great too. If you have an old fireplace - put them in there and it'll make it more christmassy.
*Using card, sequins and glitter to make tree and household decorations.
*Using different colored ribbons to make little bows, tie them onto the christmas tree.
*Using pins/blue tack/etc you could put little stockings up if you have them or can make them.
*Tesco, Wilkinson etc probably sell small christmas trees for £5-10.
*Nightlights/candles if you are able to can make a really nice atmosphere in the evenings.

Sorry if these weren't that great, but that's what we're doing so I thought it might be an idea. :)

Paper chains make the house look festive for pennies worth of glue (use the freebie local newspaper )
Hang your Christmas cards around the walls from swags of string (pins in the picture rails about a metre apart look good)
Stick with a normal amount of food on Christmas day instead of the massive feast for the bin most people go for, and prepare food yourself as pre-prepared Christmas food costs a fortune.
Buy lights/tinsel/decorations in Jan for next year.
