Breakdown cover- anyone use Autonational Rescue?

Our recovery plan has come to an end and I've been looking around for a new plan. Our quote with VW Assist was just short of £120 a year (all bells and whistles, European cover etc), and AA, RAC etc seem about the same for similar.

On MoneySavingExpert I read about AutoAid, which is super cheap but pay and reclaim, and I just don't think I'm organised enough for that (and DH is definitely not).

They also have a traditional breakdown service by the same people called Autonational Rescue- it's £66/yr for the full service (homestart, recovery to place of your choice, emergency accommodation cover but NOT European). TBH not too fussed re European as I can't see us doing too much driving over there and can just get temp cover if needed. There are also no-claims discounts and 50% discount for a second car (which we are planning to buy soonish).

Has anyone used them, are they any good? Or any other cheap breakdown cover recommendations. I do prefer the full service type with onwards recovery etc as have made use of it before (but not in UK) and it was so good.

We use AutoAid. You really don't need to be that organised to use it, just fill out a form and post it off and a cheque comes back within a week or two. I think once we forgot to send it off for a good few weeks, but there was no problem and they sent us a cheque regardless.

How are they if you breakdown though? I pay more for RAC but every time I've needed them they have been very prompt & efficient so I don't mind paying more.

They've been great on the two or three occasions we've needed them. Admittedly it's only been for very minor things like a flat battery or blown tyre, but they've been with us very promptly and we got a refund cheque quickly.

I'm with that Autonational one but haven't needed to use them. I would be wary of being left on one of those days without a means of paying for something etc.
