How much does your household have left over after all bills are paid?

Just wondering how much other people have left over each month?

My dh and I have £300 left over between us but if we saved it would be much less. This equated to £150 each and by the time all incidental £5 for tea kitty at work, trips to cinema, monthly Chinese etc is paid it's not much!

Am I alone?

Nothing, really. Any excess money has to go on HE stuff and the like. Last month, for example, DD and DS4 had both outgrown almost all their clothes, so ALL extra money had to go on a trip to Primark and New Look (was only about £125, anyway). This month, all 3 younger ones are covering circuits in their science, so the extra money had to go on buying some circuit builders. Oh yes, and on sending DS3 mountain walking with the BBs (new hiking boots and waterproofs - I wish he would hurry up and stop growing.)

We definitely don't have money for social things/carry outs etc. It's all accounted for just managing the basics.

Get paid tomorrow - just looked in joint account. £38. We are struggling!

Nothing here either, we're struggling to get basics TBH. But I'm quickly picking up all the frugal living tips on MN Smile

iMemoo · 20/10/2011 14:08

Nothing, we too are struggling just to pay the basics.

About £1000 but we are not very high earners. I am SE and so we make sure we can survive on DH's wage only which is about £1,600 and my income is for overpaying debts, holidays, treats, emergencies and saving.

AFuckingKnackeredWoman · 20/10/2011 17:48

About £100 a month

jenni75 · 20/10/2011 17:57

Nothing here, all on to pay the bills.

smackapacca · 20/10/2011 21:17

We havee £600 left to pay food and fuel. It really doesn't go far though.

1catherine1 · 21/10/2011 14:34

Depends how you look at it really.... What we earn always seems to get spent so that at then end of each month I have maxed out my OD. But if I could stop OHs pointless spending we would have about £300 each month left and I could clear the extensive OD within 6 months.

I don't have enough to pay all my bills, so don't even dream about saving :(

3point14 · 13/11/2011 02:22

Some months a negative, other months a large surplus. I just bank it all and spend as little as possible. Been doing it so long now, since it god bad, that it is the norm and I cannot see it changing even if things do ever pick up.

oldteacher · 21/11/2011 16:11

£34 a month left for frippering. This covers things like unplanned school/club trips, takeouts, any nights out etc.

chrisrobin · 21/11/2011 16:29

nothing, its all gone by the time bills are paid and grocery is bought
