Sorry to be thick. I know it's this year.

Oh good - I am sure I heard 2011 on all the news when they announced it. Phew - Glad I've got it a little longer. I kept expecting it to disappear. I'll certainly miss it when it goes. DH and I don't share a joint account and he doesn't give me any money. I only work PT so it's going to be tricky when it goes.

Thanks for the info!

Marge, glad you asked and thanks lexxity for answering!
I'm in a similar position to you, marge - we have a joint account for paying the mortgage and bills, but otherwise separate accounts (DH is self-employed and obv has to watch what he's doing and not have his DW spend his tax etc! Smile). I'm not on a high tax band, but DH is. He works away all week and has a flat which is his main address. How do they check the overall household income? Because I could - completely honestly - say I'm not on a high tax band and therefore am entitled to child benefit.
It may not be much, but it pays for my cleaner = more time with DS = needed because I work full time = necessary to pay the mortgage = won't be paid if I don't work FT... If I lose that, DS will miss out on time with me (and me massively on my time with him). Sad

I really dont think child benefit should be used to pay for a cleaner. Yes i understand you do it so you get more time with your child but im a tax payer who is currently disgusted in the state of this country and knowing my tax ive payed out of my hard earned wages is going to pay for somebodys cleaner absolutely baffles me.

January 2013.

splatt · 17/05/2011 09:58

It stops April 2013.
My understanding is come that point you can continue to claim it and it will be paid as currently into the bank account. If you do this the partner who is a higher rate tax payer must declare it and it will be taken back via their tax code.
OR, you can stop claiming it and their tax code will remain the same.

Now don't quote me on this but I think this is how it will work
