How to heal my nose?!

I’m recovering from a nasty bout of Covid. I’m on week 5 since onset of symptoms. I am mostly feeling better, but my nose is in agony- the cycle of lots of mucus followed by drying out repeatedly for weeks has left the inside of my nostril inflamed. It looks really raw, and the outside has swollen up and is red - I look like I’ve been punched.

For the past couple of days I’ve washed with dettol soap as it’s antibacterial, around the outside and regularly put on sudocrem, but it isn’t going down and the pain continues! Any idea on how I can help it heal please?

That sounds so miserable, you poor love. Have you tried Vaseline? I a similar problem and it relieved the symptoms and healed within a few days.

I’d call your GP and see if you can get an antibiotic ointment.

Sudocrem on a cotton bud..

Stop using dettol soap for a start!

Sudacrem and let it settle. Speak to a pharmacist (not just the sales person) and if it persists see a doctor.

Is it infected? Could be you need something like naseptin

Thank you all of the advice, I have tried Vaseline and it does have a temporary effect but the pain and redness return overnight or after a few hours. I spoke to a pharmacist when it first started happening a couple of weeks ago but they advised to leave it alone and it would heal by itself. I might have to bother the GP I think.

I second the naseptin suggestion. It's an antibiotic in a thin white cream form, comes in a small tube and works wonders. See your GP as soon as you can get an appointment, it sounds sore and the cream works quite quickly to dampen down the soreness and redness. Good luck, OP 💐

You need an antibiotic cream. Sudocrem etc won't do a thing.

Thank you - my GP practice agreed to fit me in today. Dhevdid prescribe the naseptin, and after 2 applications the swelling is going down, thank goodness! I also have a course of oral antibiotics.

There is a gel you can get called Octenisan nasal gel, which is just an antiseptic rather than an antibiotic. It's no substitute for naseptin if you've got a proper infection (I've been prescribed naseptin once and it was great), but I've used it a couple of times when I felt my nose getting a bit sore again & it seemed to work to soothe it and stop it getting bad again.

I'm pretty sure we're not meant to put vaseline up noses any more as it can get into the lungs if not careful .
