I was just wondering I’m on my 10th Covid infection I have had 7 new infections in 9 months. I’ve been in bed all week with the fatigue and aches. My body can’t handle this much more. If I was to get it again in January would I be eligible to get the antiviral in the hospital. My gp won’t even give me painkillers. I have had long COVID four and half years.

That seems like a very high number of viruses. Have you spoken to your GP about your low immune system?

AmberOrca · 31/12/2024 17:18

I had it once.
In 2020, but that once absolutely shot my immune system- I went from being a primary school teacher totally immune to all bugs to being ill all the time. I’ve had three lots of antibiotics in the last two months.
Up until getting Covid I’d had antibiotics 5 times in my life and I’m in my 40s.

Unfortunately that’s just Covid over all I’ve had 300 infections most requiring antibiotics and sepsis twice
as as I said my gp couldn’t be any more useless. I normally skip and go to out of hours.

have you tested positive all of those 7 times?

stayathomegardener · 01/01/2025 00:31

Sympathies, I had 'long covid' for years following a live flu vaccine in 2003.

Unfortunately covid in march 2020 put me back in that situation.

I survive by semi shielding in winter, medical masks and using Dr Myhill's vitamin c and iodine guidelines.

I am hopeful that supporting my body for the next few years will reset it again.

It's so rubbish isn't it.

Helpagirlout222 · 01/01/2025 01:06

I've tested positive 5 times. Suspect I've had it more often than that but couldn't be bothered always testing, as vulnerable relative who i mainly tested for had sadly passed away.
It's trashed my immune system and I have all sorts of weird/low blood test results.

2024onwardsandup · 01/01/2025 12:45

Have you had the vaccines regularly? You poor thing sounds hard

OhhYoureSpikey · 01/01/2025 12:57

The criteria for antivirals is quite strict so I don’t think you will qualify with long covid if you have no other conditions that would qualify.

In your shoes I would be wearing a mask everywhere and constantly sanitising my hands in the hope of reducing The likelihood of catching it again.
I have only had it once, as I had spent most of the last 4 years protecting someone extremely vulnerable who has sadly now died after catching covid, despite antivirals, so masks and sanitiser had worked for me. I hope you feel a little better soon Flowers

midgetastic · 01/01/2025 13:12

Over what time period have you had around 300 sets of antibiotics? That will have ducked your system up no end

Ilovemyshed · 01/01/2025 13:13

Not even had it once!
Had all the jabs and have a strong immune system.

DorianMeile · 01/01/2025 13:19

Over what time frame?

I don't see how 300 sets of antibiotics is even possible without being referred for investigations. That's one a month for 25 years.

OddBoots · 01/01/2025 13:25

I have had it 4 times but the most recent one was late 2023 so I have avoided it for a year.

I have been using Boots dual defence nasal spray 20ml several times a day when I am in the office or using public transport and it seems to have helped - but it could be a co-incidence.

There is some evidence from studies to say it has some efficiency (but there are other studies that show it less effective than the linked one) but I can't see anything that suggests it causes harm.

I got the idea from the BBC Podcast - Sliced Bread .

spuddy4 · 01/01/2025 13:38

I'd be asking for tests to look for an underlying medical condition if I'd had antibiotics 300 times because something is clearly wrong. If your GP won't give you painkillers how are you getting so many prescriptions for antibiotics?

Gfozzy · 07/01/2025 17:35

Hi @Christmas202 i am currently on Covid infection number 10 too! And it’s sucks 🤣

I have indeed had everything checked by immunologists and had every immune system test under the sun and guess what? My immune system is fine. Seems like we are just the unlucky ones who clearly attract the germ. Welcome to the unlucky club!

BeetrootBum · 09/01/2025 20:32

I've had it twelve times (that I know of). First time February 2020, last time, September last year. I'm immunosuppressed so catch everything. Thankfully I'm eligible for antivirals so haven't been too ill with it since before AVs were widely available - first couple of times I was very ill. I've had all my jabs but when you're immunosuppressed they don't work as well at preventing infection - DH and DD have fully functioning immune systems and have had it three times apiece!

AussieManque · 17/01/2025 12:55

Best way to avoid illness is to wear a N95 mask indoors and in crowded spaces. Works a treat against airborne illness. Covid damages your immune system, making you vulnerable to other viral, bacterial, fungal diseases. Not to mention that research has shown that each covid infection causes an average IQ drop of 3 points (6 if severe enough for hospitalisation).
Please protect yourselves! The government is totalling failing on public health and we're just setting ourselves up for a healthcare disaster of long term sickness.

I'm immunosuppressed, that's why I catch it so often. Also I cannot wear any mask because I have trigeminal neuralgia - every time I tried (and oh my god I tried sooo hard) to wear one during the pandemic I had a horrific TN attack, one of which required an ambulance to be called to a shopping centre because I lost consciousness. Not great when the NHS was under so much strain!

Sorry to hear this. All the more important for mitigations to be taken to clean the air and protect society at large: ventilation, clean air through HEPA filters, and masking/isolating when sick and in places where people have no choice to be, primarily health care centres.
We are definitely still 'during the pandemic' unfortunately!
