Exactly that!

Teen daughter had cold symptoms, tested negative day 2-3, was up & down (feeling better, then feeling worse over the next few days) As not picking up day 5-6, tested again Saturday, and it a very quick positive!

I have had sinus headaches all week & today sore throat - negative LFT but seeing dad tomorrow for his 90th birthday!

Wish I knew for definite if this covid or not .

There's been discussions on this before. I recall last year some people said they only tested positive when they started to feel better, so around day 4-5.

Thanks. I know it seems a daft question asking as about the 6th lot of covid in our family - but first this year so wondering with new variants, things changed. Now wonder if eldest's cold that was just cold (no cough etc) that tested neg covid, was actually a less severe case of covid - as youngest overlapped being unwell with her sister.

About day 3 for me. I have managed to give it to 2 octogenarians so feel terrible.

LapinR0se · 15/07/2024 13:43

Day 2 here. I have it now. My symptoms:

  • very sore throat
  • hayfever symptoms
  • fever

I had a very sore throat, tested neg, but the day after positive. That was 6 days ago. Today I am still positive and after 3 days of feeling much better and almost 'cured' I'm starting to feel as rough as again today. It's a nasty one this time.

Lateral flow tests can miss about half of positive cases, so if someone in your house has had a positive I think it's safest to assume you are positive too even with a negative test result.

Went to bed Monday night feeling fine, woke up Tuesday with headache, sore throat, blocked nose and feeling dreadful. Tested first thing and was positive.

GlomOfNit · 18/07/2024 23:49

It's not at all a daft question, as there are, as you say, so many variants since the ones we were all obsessing over a few years ago. Things have changed, I think.

I got covid about 2 and a half weeks ago. I started feeling very slightly scratchy throat on the Tuesday. Tested on Wednesday evening (with a cheap and crappy test, was abroad) and it was negative. Wednesday was my first day of 'proper' symptoms but not yet full-blown - tired, cough, dripping nose, muscle aches, dizzy. Tested first thing Thursday morning with a Flowflex and was very much positive. I started testing negative again from day 8! For the record, I was still feeling crap - dizzy, very tired, spaced-out. I'm 2.5 weeks in now and out and about again, but there still hasn't been a day where I've not felt odd - dizzy, very tired, or just muzzy. Nasty thing, this one.

I'm thinking I could currently be Covid + (primary teacher). Struggling to breathe at times, cough, sore throat, awful headache feeling. But I keep calm and carry on of course.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 18/07/2024 23:53

4 or 5 days iirc.

Lougle · 18/07/2024 23:57

I'm convinced DD3 and DH have COVID. DD3 has had a sore throat for a few days and has gradually gone down hill. She has OCD and showers religiously but she just couldn't bring herself to have a shower. Tonight she actually burst into tears because she remembered that it was her job to do the bottom two racks of the dishwasher.

DH has taken the last couple of days off work. He never takes sick days, to a point that is quite extreme.

Tonight I walked back from the shops. Normally a four minute walk but I felt like I had lead in my boots.

The last time I remember anyone behaving as they behaved, was when I asked DD2 to come to the village with me and she protested that she felt terrible and for all I know she could have COVID (she did!). We were all quite poorly.

Hellodarknessmyfriend · 19/07/2024 00:06

@Lougle Yes I've felt very similar re the fatigue; like putting one foot in front of the other has been a chore. I'm a teacher so at least it's the last day tomorrow with the kids in! Totally wiped out.
Hope you all feel better soon.

I would assume Covid too. Personally, I would speak to your dad, suggest meeting for a birthday celebration in a few weeks instead.
If you really want to see him and he wants to see you, I would agree but only if you meet outside, masked and at a distance. Then you can have a nice chat and time together, but low risk of passing anything on to him.

Or you could just wear good respirators 🤷‍♀️
