Covid Stress

DD works part-time at the local Tesco Express. She's just messaged me to say her colleague has just told her she tested positive for covid yesterday. According to dd she's hacking away, invading her personal space, touching her screen instead of keeping to her own, moving her water bottle etc.

I'm.stressing now as I'm carer for my elderly parents. Mum has COPD and half a lung missing due to cancer and us very vulnerable. I'm annoyed as I'm probably going to have to stay away from them for a few days in case we brew it. Anyone know the incubation period for the new strains?

I know there's no rules on isolation now, but for people like me it really impacts.

Just needed to rant!!

Sorry to hear this. It must be frustrating. I wish people would be more considerate when they are ill. Not sure on the latest strains but covid has a pretty short incubation, 3ish days. Hope your daughter doesn’t catch it.

Yes people can be very selfish can't they? It doesn't make them overly poorly so that's ok, stuff other people who it can be really serious for. My daughter has long Covid and is terrified of getting the horrible virus again. It has made her so ill ☹️

so sorry to hear this. I think your daughter should speak to her employer

LikeToBeOnABeachRightNow · 13/07/2024 19:00

Shows what tesco think of their staff and customers.

needhelpwiththisplease · 13/07/2024 19:14

If Tesco is like my employer then you are expected in, unless you are to Ill to work, regardless of illness

Selfish because they’re going to work otherwise they won’t get paid? It’s Tesco’s issue as an employer. OP, you and your Dd are probably unknowingly in contact with Covid throughout the day. All you can do is test before your visit.

If a customer swore at your DD or her colleague, I assume Tesco would say that's unacceptable. However, deliberately harming a colleague is acceptable. Same for every other irresponsible, shitty employer out there.

👏👏👏. Well said

@Peonies12
No not selfish for going to work. Selfish for hacking everywhere. (Probably unmasked) and invading OPs Dd space and using her screen instead of her own. I know many people are expected to go to work and it's not their fault, but they could use their brains and try and prevent spreading it around.

KatiesMumWoof · 17/07/2024 20:24

@CanIbeRio

I really hope you & DD don't get it.

her colleague is a selfish arse for not wearing a mask & for coughing everywhere, touching DD's stuff etc

i have tested tonight but my tests are out of date so not sure about the quality if the result, I'll get some fresh ones tomorrow.

if I was in your position I'd stay away from my parents & get family/friends to help them with anything essential.

can DD call in sick for a couple of days? & when she returns, keep wiping everything with wipes & using hand sanitiser??

there's so much around & most people have stopped taking any sensible precautions that working in retail is very risky anyway.

WhatTheFuk · 21/07/2024 13:25

Wipes and hand sanitiser, touching screens aren't going to impact transmission it's an airborne virus. If your daughter wants to try and protect herself and grandparents, she needs to wear respirator masks. (Not blue paper ones) she knows about her colleague but there will be infectious customers throughout the day too.

Sunnyside4 · 21/07/2024 19:50

Hopefully it worked out OK OP, but one thing your DD could have done is kept away from you for a few days. Keep windows open and if you really want to be in same room for her to wear a mask. I've had covid twice from work and have passing it to any family by doing this, even being in the car with DH.
