Just tested positive, anyone need company?

Any replies of this nature will be ignored - why are you testing, it's just a cold, new normal, just get on with it, go for a nice walk, do some exercise, covid doesn't exist, it's just a flu blah blah blah. If you choose to post stuff like that, quite frankly you're just kicking me when I'm down so please - try to remember I'm a person behind the words.

I have very genuine reasons to test, one of them being I have three extremely vulnerable people I was due to see this week and could have caused unspeakable damage.

I tested positive yesterday after having symptoms from Friday. I bloody knew it. I'm finding I'm incredibly restless and unsettled. I have a lot of chronic conditions, one of which is long covid I believe plus other chronic pain - and the rest.

I've been in bed resting, drinking lots of fluids. Can't get enough into me. Can't sleep, think my brain won't let me but I do very much struggle with sleep anyway (insomnia).

I checked my smart watch and the one time I've gone downstairs today for 5 minutes, my blood pressure and pulse increased significantly. I had a nasty virus Nov/December which significantly increased my resting heart rate and blood pressure so that's what made me check.

Anyway, my voice is coming and going and my throat is so sore. Weird pains. Strong facial /jaw pain.

Wondered if there was any posters tested positive who needed some company

Hoping for sleep soon. I might just use this to track my symptoms.

Tea really hurt my throat that's annoying! Appetite isn't huge if I'm in charge of it, but my husband brought me toast up and I hoofed it into me so must have needed it. Can't face fruit, veg, milk/cereal, yoghurt , dinners etc.

You sound a little like you're catastrophising - remember covid is well on the way to being just another cause of the common cold. There is no reason to worry unduly by a positive test.

I tested positive last Sunday. Its the first time I've ever had a positive tesr, which I know in itself is unusual.

I was really poorly for 5-6 days. Defo needed to be off work. Took alternate paracetamol and ibuprofen every 2h - so 16 pain killers a day - which is very unlike me. Head pain/pressure was worse for me, and sore throat.

I started feeling a bit better by Friday. I'm back at work now (just over a week later) - not fully back to normal yet, but well enough to be at work.

Very similar to me. Tested positive last Wednesday for the first time ever. Toddler DS was first unwell two weekends ago, and based on his symptoms I immediately thought he must have Covid. Did a test, and it was negative.

A few days later, DS2, who is 7 months came down with it, and started to have breathing issues so took him to A&E. He wasn’t serious enough to require intervention so they monitored him for several hours before sending us home but I felt absolutely shattered whilst we were in A&E. Assumed it was the several days of minimal sleep but when we got home I had a fever and chills and my entire body ached, even my eyes. Did a test the following day and it was positive immediately. Tested DS2 and negative. Have tested DS2 several more times and it’s always been negative, but I find it hard to believe that we just happen to be unwell at the same time with different viruses. My mum, who we saw on the weekend DS1 was unwell, tested positive too.

I have struggled to look after two small children whilst feeling rough. I just want to rest but I can’t. So it’s been a lot of aches and exhaustion which I have been taking pain relief and sugary snacks for. I’m still not 100% and keep having really bad coughing fits.

It’s DS2 I’m worried about. He’s still working hard to breathe. He has been worse in the past, having had RSV when he was an infant, and DS1 has had many admissions to hospital with breathing problems after a respiratory virus, so I know what the red flags are. But it’s now been a week and he’s still struggling. We see the GP tomorrow - hopefully they can help with some guidance.

OP it isn't just a cold and you're not over reacting.
I get it. I have COVID too at the moment and also have long COVID.
The first three days I had a horrible painful sore throat and facial pain (including upper teeth but not lower teeth!) which stopped me sleeping. I was also very achy and had painful sensitive skin. It then progressed to stuffy nose, typical cold symptoms and I started sleeping better.
I am concerned that I may struggle with my long COVID again. It took over a year to get to 50% recovered and i don't want a set back.
So far, I'm resting as much as I can and taking lots of vitamins. Only time will tell if this infection has done any longer term damage.
I hope you feel better soon and that your infection does no lasting harm.

Its going around ALOT

Theres alot of threads on here about it

Sounds like its a bad variant this time

I have so many hospital appointments this month and surgery planned !

I can not get sick

LittleSF · 02/07/2024 07:25

Just tested positive this morning- woke at 5am with high temp and awful sore throat. Tested as due in office today and don't want to pass it on. Was at TS concert this weekend so not surprised.

Lemsip helped. Head is sore but otherwise not too bad now temp has come down. Better go message my boss that I'll be wfh for rest of the week (or if symptoms get worse, lying on sofa watching the tennis).

greendu · 02/07/2024 07:47

There is definitely a wave of it going round -after months of knowing no one with it I now know four people who have tested positive in the past week!

CatLady476 · 02/07/2024 08:38

Im in Day 8 here and just so, so tired. Feel like an old woman trying to go up the stairs. It's round 3 for me and each successive time ups your risk of long COVID. That's really scary.

I hope your 7 month old feels better soon (and everyone else on this thread with covid). For testing him, you could try swabbing his nappy (poo) instead of his nose, as quite a lot of covid does come out of the body that way too (which is why they used to monitor waste water to get an idea of how much is in the community).

TruthThatsHardAsSteel · 03/07/2024 00:10

Honestly I promise I'm not catastrophising. I typed up a big long reply but it's likely TMI. If I was coming from this as a fully healthy person (without long covid), that's totally different. Past experience tells me existing conditions could be exacerbated to the point that I have to be admitted to hospital, have a procedure under anaesthetic and daily nurse visits for months. It's complicated. (I'm not saying covid will put me in hospital).

I'm delighted @pterodacty1 that you're on the road to recovery 😊.

I am struggling with my mental health in general. That's true.

I'm due to go to an event on thu nt (In a room with 1500 odd people), and on Monday we're due to go for a quick 2 day break in the UK and I'm so confused what to do. Hate the thought of infecting others possibly, plus it's at my work place ffs.

My test is much darker today than Sunday. Came up straight away. Exhaustion today. Feel like it's trying to get into my ears and nose. Hope not!! 🤣

How is everyone else? Going to read the rest of the replies. Thank you to everyone replying, It means a lot. Chat away 😊

Get the fluids in you and vitamin c as minimum.

Where are you getting your tests? Pretty sure DH had it a couple of weeks ago he was really poorly, couldn't breathe properly, brain fog, was absolutely wiped out and slept almost 3 days straight.
We had a bunch of test kits left over (they used to send us a box a week as he was considered front line) but we found the solution had virtually evaporated in every box so used 3-4 bottles to get the previous amount to get a result so I don't think it would ever be accurate

This is wrong. Covid is not a cause of the cold - they are separate viruses!

And you spent almost a week in bed - not what you'd do with a cold!!

Oldcroneandthreewitches · 03/07/2024 00:37

OP I had covid two weeks ago. It was all in my face and sinuses, couldn’t bend over as felt like my head would explode, arms felt like they had been pulled off - it was also the weekend I moved house. Fucking ^hideous’ situation.

But this post has made me laugh 😂😂 Are you prone to catastrophising?

‘Day 3 - DH bought me some dry toast, lay in bed contemplating the meaning of life, throat is sore’…. 😂😂

IBegYourBiggestPardon · 03/07/2024 01:36

@obsessedwithfreshbread I just got a couple of single tests from the chemist. Cost £2.50 per test. I also had some left over from when I was a carer. They looked like they had some liquid inside them but when I tried to put the liquid onto the test nothing came out of the tube.

It is really NOT like a common cold

Does a common cold cause long term effects like Long Covid?

LittleSF · 03/07/2024 08:11

I got banished to the spare room with the lumpy mattress last night so I don't know if the aches and pains are due to Covid or the stupid bed!

Hope fellow sufferers slept well - I woke a few times but overall not so bad. Mustering energy to get myself a Lemsip and then back to bed for a bit.

Netaporter · 03/07/2024 08:17

I feel for you @TruthThatsHardAsSteel I had covid a couple of weeks ago. It was bloody awful - far worse than when it was an ‘thing’. And I only tested because DH was due for a big op and I wanted to rule it out. He moved out for 4 days to a hotel but unfortunately I had infected him already so it was a wasted effort. And he’d had a booster jab this year. Pretty sure I got it from a parent at a school event (the sort of person who really invades your personal space) and was merrily telling me how ill her kids were during their exams… 😩

Hope you recover soon.

TruthThatsHardAsSteel · 04/07/2024 16:28

Every day I plan on going through the thread and replying to everyone individually, but haven't managed..it feels too big a task for my brain. I'm sorry.

How is everyone feeling? I've been getting absolutely blinding headaches. In my eyes down the side of my face. Yesterday was both sides. I can actually see it in the mirror.

We've cancelled our 2 day trip, no way I'm capable at this stage.

I have a few boxes of tests. Done chemists give them away free, I had bought some in September as a friend I was staying with had covid so I needed to keep testing. Her house was big enough for us to isolate successfully (she didn't want me at risk) and I stayed in to look after her so had tests from that.

I bought some from Amazon the other day for my mum who is extremely high risk, as I spent time with her the day I got infected.

Throat seems to be getting better 🤞, voice is returning, tiny cough. Biggest issue is exhaustion and the headaches. Sleeping a lot.

Interested to know how everyone else is getting on.

I tried looking for guidance online about when it's "safe" to be around others, but NI has no guidance. NHS enclosed (most important for my best friend who I'd say is the most vulnerable)

Tested yesterday two different ones as experiment (one box out of date, one in) and both were positive as the liquid hit the T. Don't know that that means.

Just tested positive, anyone need company?

My Husband (62) has just been in isolation in hospital with Covid . He was on oxygen for a couple of days and anti- viral meds. Luckily I didnt catch it off him.
There's a lot of it going about our Village right now.

That's just not true. Covid is not 'another cause of the common cold'. They are totally separate viruses and one does not give you the other.

Dd (20) has just had it. 12 days later she is still exhausted, has a sore back and food tastes odd. She has a sore throat and aching bones to begin with, then nausea and splitting headaches.

I hope you feel better soon!

hellsbells99 · 06/07/2024 11:22

I have tested positive today - the line came up straight away.
Had already cancelled seeing someone who is vulnerable today as I am full of cold. Only tested as I am due to take someone for a hospital appointment on Monday and was meeting up with 2 vulnerable people on Tuesday.
I woke up on Wednesday with a sore throat and have had cold symptoms and a headache since. I also have a cough now. I do actually feel a bit better today - yesterday it was a struggle to do much at all. I have been taking lots of cold and flu tablets and ibuprofen.
Hope everyone feels better soon.

Sluj · 06/07/2024 11:31

Me too, was absolutely fine till about 8pm last night, then the sore throat started and blocked up nose. Spent the night feeling alternately hot and cold and strangely, dreaming about Nigel Farage 😅 Staying in and taking it easy today. Used an old test and instant positive, though I've sent off for some new ones from Amazon.
