Both got Covid but I'm testing negative while partner is positive

Caught Covid at an event on Saturday: dozens of attendees reporting going down with it. Partner and I have the same symptoms, including sore throats, runny noses, fever and wheeziness. Partner's first Covid test, taken on Monday morning, showed a strong, almost instant, positive result. Mine was negative. I've taken one every morning since then and I'm still showing negative.

It wouldn't matter except that I have another event scheduled for Sunday and don't want to pass it on. But if I haven't actually had Covid at all, what am I to do?

This makes no sense. If you're worried about making vulnerable people ill, then it doesn't matter if it's Covid, a cold or Norovirus.

And it's extremely unlikely your husband caught Covid on the Saturday anyway, if he tested positive so soon.

Treat yourself as if you’re unwell, as you are, and carry on.

Did I mention vulnerable people? [checks] No. Confused

If I'd had a cold for a few days but wasn't actually streaming and sneezing and clearly infectious I'd go on Sunday. I understand, though, that Covid may be more dangerous than a cold for some people.

If you’re still negative on Sunday and feeling okay then I would go.
If you’re still negative but feeling unwell then no I wouldn’t go.
It could be you’ve got it and it’s taking longer to show. My dh tested positive for 10 days and I didn’t get my positive test until day 11 but had been feeling all the same symptoms as him throughout.

If you fell well, go. If you don't feel well, don't go.

Arlanymor · 28/06/2024 12:40

Treat it as any other illness - if you are still symptomatic and feeling unwell then don't go. The rules around testing were more applicable to earlier variants of incredibly infectious and dangerous variants. If you are still testing and negative and feel fine then go.

I know you didn't mention them, I assumed it was why you were bothering to test for Covid in the first place, and why you're worried about spreading whatever is wrong with you, around?

Otherwise no-one would ever leave the house with so much as a sniffle.

So if spreading it to vulnerable people isn't particularly what you're worried about, what are you worried about?

Peonies12 · 28/06/2024 12:45

it doesn't matter if you have Covid. If you're ill, and either feel too ill to go out, or are worried about spreading, don't go out. Outside of Mumsnet I don't know anyone who tests

Thanks, that's helpful. How galling for you, not to be positive till 11 days into things.

Lateral flow tests only pick up about half of positive cases, unfortunately.

VitaSays · 28/06/2024 21:14

Thanks for that information. It's about nine months since I last had Covid and so I'm a bit out of the swing of things.
