Appointment tomorrow. Daughter has Covid

Ok so DD has a long awaited appointment tomorrow to collect MRI results (orthopedics).
She's been coughing a few days and I found a test and tested her. She's positive.

Are we still allowed to go or not?

How old is your test? ‘Found one’ suggests it’s old in which case it’s not accurate.

ChrisPPancake · 26/06/2024 19:50

I'd call the hospital and check. It was a resounding 'no way' when I called with the same query.

If it's for results they may be able to do a phone/online appointment?

Badgertime · 26/06/2024 19:52

A year old or so probably.

Our appointment letters state not to attend with Covid. Can you phone and ask them to switch to a teams or telephone call?

Lokshen · 26/06/2024 19:53

Absolutely not. They will do telephone though if you ring and explain.

MigGirl · 26/06/2024 19:54

I would ask, the clinc I go to still ask you not to go if you have symptoms. You don't have to tests but if activity coughing they wouldn't be happy with you turning up. But you could ring to check.

LIZS · 26/06/2024 19:54

Can you rearrange it to be online? If it is results not examination based.

Badgertime · 26/06/2024 19:55

Thank you. I just read the letter and couldn't find Covid advice but I may have lost it if it was on another page.
I will call them first thing.

Call them and check what their policy is. They may be able to do a phone appointment. There may be very vulnerable people in that waiting room with you- or the staff may need to see some very vulnerable people after your daughter.
Hope the appointment goes well.

Teddybarr · 26/06/2024 19:59

You could phone them to check, seen as though staff are expected in work unless literally too poorly too even with known covid then probably not much point!

watchthetriffid · 26/06/2024 20:30

Having spent more than my fair share of time in waiting rooms for orthopaedic appointments, I would personally grab the chance of a phone or video appointment with both hands. That's especially the case if all you're doing is getting results - the last MRI results I got took five minutes to deliver after a nearly three hour wait across two different waiting areas.

In any case, I think you have to stay away. It really isn't OK to take covid to a hospital. It's bad enough that the staff will sometimes (not always) be working with covid, without patients and visitors bringing in even more. Whichever surgeon or consultant you see could end up cancelling clinics and operations for loads of people next week after seeing your daughter tomorrow. Even if the person on the phone says you should come in anyway, don't assume that the other staff or the consultant him/herself will think it was OK.

watchthetriffid · 26/06/2024 20:36

In fact I'd go so far as to say I wouldn't ask, I'd just tell them she's ill with covid so can't come in, so could the surgeon ring or video call you instead - rather than giving them the opportunity to say it's fine for you to come in because that's less hassle for them than arranging an alternative.

We rang and asked the hospital if we could change to telephone consultation as my daughter had terrible virus and they agreed.
