What to expect Covid?

Dd10 just tested positive. I’ve been ill for a week but didn’t think to test. I am negative at the moment. She currently has a high temp, headache, but if a cough, sensitive skin. I only tested because I randomly came across a couple of boxes when I was looking for the thermometer. Is she likely to get worse? We’ve never knowingly had it in the house before. Feeling anxious

It’s just a virus, don’t overthink it.

However do be mindful of giving her plenty of time to get better as that might help reduce the chance or long covid

I would treat it like any sort of virus. Plenty of fluids and paracetamol for temperature.

Children tend to have quite mild symptoms. Otherwise, lots of rest! For adults it's a heavy cold and fatigue. I'm day 5 and it's the fatigue, body aches that is tough

Temp broke quite quickly. She’s lethargic today and disappointed to be missing school but seems better than yesterday

It's become a problem now because most people think covid is 'just a virus'. In fact it's a damn clever virus that mutates all the time (yes I know that's what viruses do), has learnt to evade the latest vaccination and because it can gain access to all bodily tissues therefore it isn't just respiratory. Covid can hide, like herpes, around the body and has been found in the brain as well as myriad other places.

We had it recently despite many vaccinations and for each of us, it was a hacking cough, temperature, headache fatigue, days of a runny nose and sore throat. We were in France where it still gets treated with care (and they have a functioning health service) and we got seen immediately by a doctor who gave us both a full check over and advice including to keep monitoring and to wear a mask until we tested negative.

Children do tend to recover more quickly. You might find this interesting https://www.longcovidkids.org/statistics

Also to know that latest research shows that some people are genetically more likely to catch and be ill with covid.
