Hi,
Now I know before I wrote this, people are going to say why have you tested, no one is testing now etc etc but im testing as I'm late in pregnancy and want to ensure I'm not unknowingly spreading anything to other mothers/babies or my own baby (when it arrives) when I go into hospital.

I've had a cough for 2 weeks, Friday felt as though I was hit with a bus out of nowhere and decided to test and antigen was super dark immediately. Had horrific fevers 38.5 and awful clogged sinus and cough more productive.
I've done my 5 day isolation (Irish rules) but I'm still positive today, not even a faint positive, it's still super dark and I feel really cold so did my temp again and it's 38.

Do you think it's something else or can covid symptoms go on this long?

Thank you

It can definitely go on this long. Covid is extremely variable and while for some people it's "a cold", for many others it's a long, nasty illness that can drag on and on.

It's normal to be positive for more than five days. Please don't feel you have to justify why you test just because some people have an odd reaction to it - that's their issue not yours. Congratulations on your pregnancy and hope you feel better soon.

During pregnancy your immune system is reduced which maybe why you still have symptoms but you may have also developed a chest infection or other bacterial infection.

Do you feel like you may have a chest infection?

I've known (relatively young) people recently who felt ill and tested positive for covid for nearly two weeks, and being pregnant could mean you're not fighting it off as well as your immune system is lowered. You could also move from having covid straight into a chest infection or something like that, as the PP said.

I would rest as much as possible and see a doctor or ask your midwife if you're worried your symptoms aren't improving, pregnancy is a time to be extra careful.

My dad had it recently and tested positive for 2 weeks and he’d already been coughing and spluttering for a number of days before he did a test. The old guidance was isolation for up to 10 days unless you tested negative on 2 consecutive days before then so definitely not unreasonable to still be testing positive. First time I had it my tests on days 6-8 were like they’d been drawn on marker pen they were so dark!

Thanks everyone for your responses. I'm going to link in with my gp/midwife just to ensure everything is ok. I reckon I've probably got a sinus infection now on top of covid. No fevers overnight thankfully

Thanks everyone for your help 😊
