Covid tests

On so many of these threads, people seem to feel they need to explain why they've done a test, just because it's not mandatory. Why?

Because the first question will always be "why did you do a test"

TeaWithASplashOfMilk · 08/12/2023 12:46

Yeah, there's often a random saying that I guess. Some do kind of 'bully' others or feign surprise for doing it, which is batshit. It doesn't matter why people test - there are a myriad of reasons.

I do it because then I'm obligated to sit at home for at least a week, which I enjoy VERY much.

TeaWithASplashOfMilk · 08/12/2023 14:20

Like I said, there are a myriad reasons for reasons. You may have even helped someone else not have to sit at home for years due to long covid. I was interested in why people ask others why they test and people feeling they have to explain why they test

I tested because I felt slightly unwell and work with lots of people who i didn’t want to infect plus had been with someone two days before who told me they had tested positive
it’s just the way I normally feel about doing the right thing

TinaYouFatLard · 08/12/2023 19:24

I genuinely think lots of people were traumatised by what happened during Covid and are desperate not to go down that path ever again.

Spacecowboys · 08/12/2023 19:35

Who knows why Joe Public are still testing. There’s no requirement for nhs staff to test anymore. I don’t believe that anyone needs to ‘ know’ they have Covid at this point. If you are unwell with a temperature , cough and feel crap, you would just stay at home until you feel better anyway. Job done. It doesn’t need to be ‘labelled’ as covid anymore than an illness needs to be labelled as flu ( which the general public aren’t obsessed with testing for) .

TeaWithASplashOfMilk · 08/12/2023 19:44

Then why go on the covid boards and snipe at people who test instead? Why not avoid it or make a post about lockdown or something? Plenty had awful times in lockdown - some of those people still test and some of those don't. Even if you're someone that genuinely still believes the initial symptoms of covid are all there is to it, or it 'only' harms those already juggling other health issues, why snipe at others for testing? If anything, the more 'others' that test, even if you don't, the more freedom you will have from fewer infections around.

Not 'you' personally, just a figure of speech btw.

I usually test if I have a cold. If it's a cold, I usually feel much better after a day or two and would be able to go about as normal even if still a bit sniffly. However if it's COVID then I'd avoid going in people's houses, going in the shop, seeing elderly parents etc for a bit longer.
