‘Covid’ rash post vaccines (pics)

I’m in a vulnerable group so have had all vaccines to date, all Pfizer and all on their own...never had any issues.

I had Covid for the first time at the end of July…very mild, a couple of days of sweats/chills and a week of feeling generally run down but not really even cold symptoms.

Beginning of this month I had my flu and Covid jabs together, I was given Cominarty, which was described to me as ‘the new Pfizer’ so I felt reassured, no immediate side effects.

About a fortnight ago I had an itchy rash come up on one shoulder. Sent pics to GP and had phone consult, suspected mild shingles.

Last weekend another patch appeared on my upper thigh and over the last three days I’ve had a slightly different rash pop up all over the place…I’ve now got some kind of itchy rash on both upper arms, one knee, one ankle and as of this morning it’s spread to my right hand.

Had another phone consult with GP yesterday who has prescribed steroid cream (which naturally neither of my local pharmacies have in stock) - the itching is driving me insane and it’s really worrying me tbh.

The only logical cause is the jabs - I’ve checked the bed for bugs, the cats for fleas, haven’t been anywhere outdoorsy, don’t generally suffer from rashes.

Has anyone else experience this as a result of the jabs rather than the illness itself?

Allergy? If you haven't already you could try some of the over the counter anti allergy tablets. Are you using any new soap, washing powder or anything.

Was the initial rash near the vaccination site? You can get allergic skin reaction to the vaccine.

I had a long standing rash (8 months or so) from my first covid infection - it didn't look like that, and it didn't itch.

MintyCedric · 27/10/2023 10:23

@plumtreebroke i can’t recall which jab went in which side but I think the shoulder rash is on the same side.

I haven’t changed anything that comes into contact with my skin, only use essential oils in the bath.

Have done a deep clean of the house this week but haven’t used any chemical products that I haven’t used before (and try to keep them to a minimum anyway)

A friend got a rash on his chest after his last Covid jab. I think it cleared up after a couple of weeks, he hasn't mentioned it recently.
He is over 65 - I think the vaccine for over 65s differs from that for younger people.

I had skin problems after my Pfizer vaccine on the inside of both wrists. They started as blisters and ended up looking exactly like psoriasis which I've never had and grew really big and were scaley. They itched, cracked and bled.
The doctor thought psoriasis and referred me to a dermatologist who said it was an autoimmune response likely to the vaccine. It lasted around 12 months and has completely gone now. Steroid cream helped when they were sore.
I only had my first vaccine I didn't want to risk any more.

I also had joint pain which cleared up at the same time the rash disappeared.

MintyCedric · 27/10/2023 12:57

I have been having joint pain in the last few weeks…I’d put it down to being a bit hit and miss with my HRT as I’ve just started a full on new job but now I’m wondering.

I got something like this after the first jab, but it developed over 18 days later which I would have thought a long time after. Same side as the jab, on my arm but not just in a patch at the needle site.

It felt hot, irritated, not exactly itchy.

lapochette · 29/10/2023 23:28

I had a patchy rash after my last vaccination. It started on one arm then the other arm and then both legs. I had it for months before it eventually disappeared.

a couple of years ago,my cousin had a rash after moderna ,it was a known side effect

CoffeeWithCheese · 10/11/2023 08:57

I've had the rash, itching (and it gets to peeling skin as well - which is fun with hand sanitisers and it being on my hands particularly) and horrible deep joint pain ever since the initial two jabs.

Seems to be a side-effect that's generally short lived but I got the bugger that is determined not to leave (I'm not anti-vax, I just ended up in the small percentage that got hit with the unlucky stick on this one so I don't want any more boosters to make it worse).

Best thing I've found for the rash/itching is to keep on top of daily antihistamines for at least a couple of weeks, plus gentle moisturiser as well (I tend to use aveeno because we have it in the house for one of the kids) - I've found with mine if I let it actually get to the point of being itchy it will absolutely burn with itch for hours. I tend to find when mine flares up it's a good 2-3 weeks before it buggers off again.

It may be worth checking you don’t have an autoimmune reaction driving this. My Dr (specialist, not GP) says they have treated many for this, both post-vax and post-Covid. Elevated rheumatoid factor and positive ANA, was how they confirmed it for me. Steroids are sometimes given.
