Testing positive a week into infection?!

I’ve felt off with a headache and nausea for a week now - started last Monday. Been doing regular covid tests which have all been negative so assumed it was something else (posted on here and posters suggested it might be a migraine, which fitted apart from the length of time it had gone on for)

Anyway I’m due at work today so I thought I’d test again before going in and I’ve got a faint line - all other tests have definitely been negative with no hint of a line.

If I’ve been unwell for a week already, should I still try and isolate? Or do I assume I’m over the non infectious part? Or maybe the headache was a red herring and this is aomething I picked up more recently (although I’ve not been anywhere except work since the headache started so seems less likely).

Bloody covid!

If you’re well enough to work, go in.

MissIndecisive2023 · 23/10/2023 08:30

I work for the NHS and would be seeing patients. Would you still want me in?

What is the hospital policy ? If it’s not to go in, then I can’t see why you’re asking on a forum. You work to your policy.

MissIndecisive2023 · 23/10/2023 08:59

The hospital policy is to go in if you feel well enough. However I don’t agree with the hospital policy and feel that as a health care professional it’s my responsibility to protect my patients, not potentially infect them with covid.

But you are right, there was no real point to my post.

Hi op. I work for the NHS and find the guidance unhelpful too. I know you want to do the right thing but you can't really win. The assumption would be that you are now much less infectious as you have been ill for a few days.
Hope you continue to feel better.
Also you could wear a mask if you can face it.

No. It's so messed up.

NotReadyForAutumnYet · 23/10/2023 15:50

I know it will be a long time coming and far too late for many, but I hope so much that those who put in these abhorrent policies face accountability for their actions.

This is irrelevant really, what does the policy say?

WhateverMate · 23/10/2023 15:52

Sorry didn't see your previous reply.

If your employer wants you in and you're well enough, then I guess that's it.

I have managed to agree to WFH today, which I am happy with.

What I mean is my manager has agreed for me to WFH - covid brain fog :)

I tested positive for just over 3 weeks even thought all my symptoms had gone after 5 days.

Notcookie · 23/10/2023 15:58

Can you imagine rewinding three years and hearing that in 2023 the NHS is encouraging their staff to come in when covid positive?! It's crazy.

Yes I had something similar the first time I tested positive - about 13 days in total I think. That's why it is so weird this time to have had symptoms for ages and not test positive until a week in.

I had increasing symptoms for seven days and only then tested positive (very positive) which I did for a further week. Current strain I think

Oh wow so it does sometimes take a while to show as positive then. What symptoms did you have?

OP posts:
margegunderson · 23/10/2023 16:14

Felt dizzy, sick and headachy on and off for a few days and it really kicked in on the fifth when it became like bad flu.

MissIndecisive2023 · 23/10/2023 17:33

Gosh I can’t imagine feeling even worse than I have done for a week! Hope you are ok now.

If the guidance says go in if you feel well enough...then you go in?
