Do parents want to know?

My little one has COVID. Do other parents want to be told when there is/was a child in their class with COVID?

I would

Oganesson118 · 16/10/2023 15:25

Not really, doesn't make any difference to me. I wouldn't keep her off anyway.

BitOutOfPractice · 16/10/2023 15:27

Why? What would you do about it?

Plinkplonkplinkplonk123 · 16/10/2023 15:31

I would because we live with 3 vulnerable people (one ecv) but have to accept that I probably won't be told.
When dc1 who's ecv was at school I got a phonecall if there were any infectious disease in school then I could speak to the hospital team and decide what action to be taken. So there may be something set up to let parents of vulnerable children know however this may not extend to those that live with a vulnerable person. It also is worth stating that those immuno-compromised are not just worried about covid (we had the same worries pre covid). It's also got to be balanced with confidentiality so as a family we've always accepted that we may not always be told.

PinkRoses1245 · 16/10/2023 15:33

I don't know why anyone wants to know?

Overthebow · 16/10/2023 15:35

Personally I wouldn’t want to know, but I can see why those with vulnerable children/family members might want to do they can decide for themselves wether to keep their children off school or not.

TealTeaTowel · 16/10/2023 15:41

I think parents need to just presume their child is in constant contact with Covid as most people don’t test anymore.

I probably wouldn’t tell the parents as you’ll just have ones who don’t care and others who get angry you’ve put their child into contact with Covid…it’s a no win situation.
Although I would keep my child off school and let the school know.

NotReadyForAutumnYet · 16/10/2023 16:21

I'd let other parents know. Also the more that do that, the less acceptable the current abhorrent covid policy is.

Noicant · 16/10/2023 17:06

I wouldn’t be bothered about, we are out a lot and DD will catch all sorts. I can understand the concern parents with clinically vulnerable children may have. There was a little boy in DD’s class at nursery that has spent a lot of time in hospital so I would have definitely told nursery.

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 16/10/2023 17:27

My youngest Dd is ecv. Her school are still taking extra measures with the support of parents. (despite the HT getting shit from the LA for it)

My older Dd’s school ask parents to inform them so they can inform anyone who is ECV, or has a close contact who is. The parents from DD’s class are really good and always message me if their child has covid or if an older sibling or cousin they’ve been in contact with has it or chicken pox etc.

The HT of DSs school recently implied he thought the whole pandemic was a hoax so he doesn’t, but the other kids are really good about it. One of them text DS the other day to say his sister had covid so he wasn’t going to come over to our house. For all that people slate teens these days DS’s mates are a considerate bunch with stuff like that

NotReadyForAutumnYet · 16/10/2023 18:15

@YetMoreNewBeginnings that's good they're being supportive, although I feel angry with local authority and the other head. Mandated infection shouldn't be a thing.

The LA are being appalling. They’re objecting to the fact that she finds things for staff to do away from the children if they test positive - this is a SEN school that lost a pupil to covid early on in tbt pandemic and has had multiple (my DD included) in icu with it. They should be pleased she, and tbt other staff, are seriously working their arses off to work around this for the good of tbt pupils (and any staff who are vulnerable)

If my DS wasn’t finishing soon I’d be pulling him out. The Head is ridiculous in his school - we’ve just had a third change of uniform in 5 years for no reason whatsoever

NotReadyForAutumnYet · 17/10/2023 10:32

I'm so sorry. It's awful how many are at the mercy of people who don't give a shit about the people in their care.

CinnamonSwirlGirl · 19/11/2023 16:57

Totally agree with everything you’ve said @NotReadyForAutumnYet . What makes me angriest is that those of us who are still trying to protect our children are effectively having it forced upon us. We can take measures outside of school to avoid high risk situations, but then other parents and schools gaslight us and act like we’re crazy for asking them to take the most basic of measures (E.g. inform us when there is Covid in the class, even just open a bloody window!). I have so much respect for headteachers like @YetMoreNewBeginnings DD’s who will prioritise the kids’ welfare above all else.

NotReadyForAutumnYet · 19/11/2023 18:38

I don't know what to say. So much seems upside down.

twinkletoesimnot · 19/11/2023 18:56

I would like to know.
Im a teacher with a vulnerable family member.

NotReadyForAutumnYet · 20/11/2023 15:45

Nursery have started to let people know. Sign up today showing how many children with chickenpox and how many have covid in the class.

Tinysoxxx · 20/11/2023 16:12

I would. My Dd has epilepsy and is more likely to have a seizure if she’s ill so I could keep an extra eye on her.

Yummymummy2020 · 20/11/2023 16:46

I would like to know as I am pregnant and already was really unwell after catching it before. Also have vulnerable family members I would decide not to see for a short period or take extra precautions potentially. In saying that, the same goes for other nasty illnesses, I always appreciate the heads up but accept illnesses are rampant now everywhere regardless! Our school does let us know, for example we got an email about hand foot and mouth last week, and that strep was in the class. It was very much appreciated even if our kids were probably already exposed!

43ontherocksporfavor · 20/11/2023 16:49

I would. Just so I could keep an eye on any symptoms and avoid seeing anyone vulnerable for a couple of weeks.
