People still testing, where are you getting the tests from?

I'm torn. I know there's no requirement, it's a bit of a quandary because unless I'm too ill to work, I'm supposed to be at work and that's where I come into contact with the most people, but I have a sore throat and no tests...

A lot of people do seem to be testing quite often, are they paying for the tests?

Last lot from Boots. Only testing when sick so I don't infect vulnerable family. They're living normal life but I don't want to knowingly infect them myself. Also not supposed to go into work when positive (WFH most of the time anyway).

Also I like knowing what I've got, I think it's interesting and potentially useful.

museumum · 11/09/2023 21:57

Local pharmacy. Not testing “quite often” but if feeling very rough with covid symptoms we’ve tested before mixing with older relatives.

LazyLadyLately · 11/09/2023 21:59

From various family member's work, we have a small tower of them.

They are out of date but seem to still work.

Only really test because we have them sat there. If they run out, don't think we'll buy more.

Fizbosshoes · 11/09/2023 22:00

We had some left from last year, still in date but the liquid had dried up.
I tested recently because I was going into hospital (I had no symptoms but I had been in contact with someone who's family member had it) I just bought a kit from boots. It's the first test I've done for probably a year

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 12/09/2023 00:23

Amazon - I think they were 5 for £3.99 . Only use if we are unwell .

AutumnCrow · 12/09/2023 00:29

I get them free from the NHS because I'm immune-suppressed. Just received a box with an expiry date of November 2023.

EmilyDickinson · 12/09/2023 00:32

Bought cheaply from a pharmacy. Really glad I tested as it meant I avoided passing it on to vulnerable people. I’d feel awful if I infected someone else if I could have avoided doing so.

ShadyPaws · 12/09/2023 00:34

Free as immunocompromised
If people don't want to buy one before visiting me then I'll give them one of mine

AlltheFs · 12/09/2023 00:41

We always have a stash in, we have vulnerable family so test before seeing them. We buy tests online. Don’t test routinely though apart from that unless ill.

The last time I had it I was really ill for weeks, and I am too curious to not know if it is Covid whenever I am really sick. I’ve become a bit
morbidly interested since I lost a friend to it last year (she was mid 40’s and not at risk-it killed her in days). Horrendous.

ScarlettSunset · 12/09/2023 06:50

I previously bought them from Boots but now from Amazon. They're cheaper from there.

PoshPineapple · 14/09/2023 13:16

Interested in these replies. We had one test left over from last year and as DH has woken up feeling unwell this morning, we used it to test him (I have both elderly and terminally ill parents living with us currently). He's positive and now I'm in a blind panic!

Iliketulips · 16/09/2023 11:08

Always good to keep some in if you intend to test. If I had symptoms and no tests, then I'd ask someone to get some for me (Boots or Savers in our area) or if that wasn't possible and I felt well enough, go to chemist early with mask on and keep anyway from everyone.

PaulaZackMayo · 16/09/2023 11:10

Only time I've tested is before I went into hospital and got mine from Boots. I had some left over from before but they were out of date.

timetorefresh · 16/09/2023 11:16

My work (a very large school) still had loads and loads when the twice a week testing ended. So they just gave them all out to staff, I still have loads

CheshireCat1 · 16/09/2023 11:24

I get mine free from the government web site because I’m immunosuppressed. I need to test so that I can get access to antivirals if I’m positive. I caught Covid twice at work and once at the dentist.

Lifeispassingby · 16/09/2023 19:12

DH is immunosuppressed so gets them from the gov website as he can get antivirals if he tests positive (which he did today). I bought some today in home bargains as we have run out they were £6.99 for 5 tests

BetiYeti · 16/09/2023 19:42

Free from Government website as I’m immunosuppressed.

Zanatdy · 17/09/2023 00:58

I’ve got a really sore throat, hence being on here! I ordered some tests with my Tesco home delivery for tomorrow. I’d rather know so I can avoid infecting others, but haven’t got any tests left now. It was £2 for 2 tests

cathcath2 · 17/09/2023 23:51

My last lot were from Boots. I have a severely immunocompromised family member so it's important I don't take COVID into their house.

lapsedbookworm · 17/09/2023 23:56

Free from govt as I am immune suppressed

AlltheFs · 18/09/2023 00:25

Plenty in Morrisons and Tesco this weekend. Harder to find than they were but in the medicines section.

We have an outbreak at nursery- it’s a very small setting and ultimately with only a few staff sick they will have to shut as won’t be in ratio. They are trying to make people test and to keep kids off but they can’t as that’s not what the gov guidance is now. But they can refuse to take ill kids with anything so they are.

Growlybear83 · 18/09/2023 00:42

I buy mine from the local pharmacy, Amazon, or the supermarket.
